Booking next cruise whilst on the ship

We are looking at booking a cruise for next year. We have a couple of ideas but one is the Fjords mainly because it falls well for husbands 60th birthday and all the photos posted on here really have been very enticing !

Cruises do seem expensive to me for next year ! We will be on Sky next month. Is there any advantage of booking next years cruise whilst onboard - onboard credit, discounts etc ?
Thanks !

Quite often they do on board credit offers and stuff like that, and if it's a just launched cruise then you get first pick of the cabins , we sometimes have a look at the offers but unless they are really good ,we just wait and see what else comes up. Weve had some good deals with cruise.co.uk and ROL

We’ve just booked while on P&O’s Iona for their new ship Arvia next year. We got an extra £50 each onboard credit for booking whilst on the ship plus there was a good deal on the new ship anyway (£400 off the cabin plus £390 each onboard credit). We were pretty happy with it. My son and his girlfriend worked it out and (if you deducted the discounts and onboard credit from the price) they were basically paying £972 each for a 2 week med cruise in a balcony cabin.

We have booked cruises whilst on the Sky Princess this year. For one, we got $50 pp obc, the other nothing. We always buy a future cruise deposit and immediately use it on the cruise we wish to book. This means we only put £75pp deposit down and we get some obc, the amount depends on grade of cabin booked and length of cruise.
For one of the cruises we weren’t sure about the cabin we wanted so we went to the area and had a word with the cabin steward who showed us an unoccupied, identical cabin. It sorted any doubts we had.

So you can do a Disney Placeholder which costs 250 dollars. This entitles you to a 10% off the total cost of another Disney cruise provided it sails 2 years on or before your placeholder ends. If you choose not to go again, you can still get your 250 dollars back.

We booked a fjords cruise on Sky Princess when we weee on a four nighter covid cruise to nowhere! We got obc and it was nice to go through all the deck plans and pick a specific one. We wanted to book another cabin for friends so made sure we were next to them.

How does this work? Do you get the 10% and the $250 off the cost of your next cruise?

You pay a deposit of $250, if there is a cruise available on board you can book onto that and get 10% off, using the $250 too.

If the cruise you want is not available you can use the $250 on a future cruise, within 2 years and get the 10% off that (this is the best value as the price of the cruises increases steadily from the day of release. I've never seen a Disney cruise go cheaper than opening day prices!)

When sailing with Princess we will both purchase a future cruise credit on board this costs £75 and allows you to book a cruise in the next two years. If you do not then they will refund the cost or we were able to extend ours earlier this year. This means if you do book a cruise the £75 is taken off as part of the deposit and you are awarded onboard spend which increases depending on the length of the cruise. We have just come off the Enchanted from a 7 night cruise and each got $50 OBC. We are next due to sail on Sky on a 15 night cruise and the OBC will be $100 each.
