Plastic ticket/magic band for 1 day?

So we have seen we can buy a 1 day ticket for Hollywood Studios through Undercover Tourist but we are confused as to which style of ticket we need.

There's talk of getting a plastic ticket, or a magic band and going to guest reservations ... can't we just buy an e ticket and enter the gates with the bar code? Then we use the reference number on MDE to book the rides etc?

This is so hard now!

I'm looking at Undercover Tourist and it's an eticket by default. Not sure what you're looking at? I can't even see the option for physical cards or Magic Bands lol

You can’t just go to the entrance and use the barcode. There aren’t any barcode scanners at the entrance. If you get e-tickets, which is an option on UT’s website, then you would either have to take the email to the Will Call desk where they will scan the barcode and give you plastic tickets or you can link the barcode to your MDE account and then use either your phone or existing MagicBand to scan in.

UT also have the option to send you plastic tickets.

UT won’t send you a MagicBand. You can link the e-tickets or plastic tickets to your MDE account and then use MagicBands that you buy separately.

I was told by a cast member yesterday this would be how it works, you can use your phone.

As we are a party of 14, she suggested we get the plastic cards which we can collect the night before our visit at Disney Springs. Attempting to use the phone for 14 people on each ride would be a nightmare lol

Yes, apparently. Haven't tried it myself but you can apparently use your phone to create digital passes for everyone in your party.

See Disney's MagicMobile page for more details:
