I also love that I can just pop my e-reader in my handbag when I go out. Not so easy to do with a tablet.

I recently changed from a Kindle fire To a paper white and much prefer it for reading.
I read a mix of physical books and kindle books but you can’t beat the kindle for portability and I would say I use that 80% of the time now.

I have the cheap kindle. I use it mainly for reading outside and it’s perfect. It isn’t backlit which can be a pain but this is my 3rd kindle and I really like it. I like it’s the cheap one as well as I’m less worried about reading near a pool or leaving it for a swim.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations, I'll have a look at them. I'm liking the ones that allow you to get them from the library!

I always sign up for the free Kindle Unlimited trials, they're usually 3 months long, then as they're about to expire, load it up with free books and take it off the wifi. By the time I've read them, there's usually another free trial that I'm eligible for.
The only books I pay for are the ones that aren't available on Unlimited / Prime reading that I really want to read.

Like someone else mentioned - check if they actually want or will use a Kindle?
I was a very early Kindle adopter (got one shipped from the US to the UK before it was selling in the UK). Went from Kindle 2 to 3 to Paperwhite. Read on Kindles for a few years. Then at some point I switched over to reading on my phone and iPad and got so used to reading on them that I haven't touched my Kindle for years now. Then of course there are the people I know who swear by paper books and refuse to read ebooks because it doesn't feel the same...

I love reading & love the smell of a new book but cost and storage is too much for me and the speed I read.
I bought a 2019 Kindle in the Amazon prime deals offer about a month ago for £44 as my IPad hurts my wrists to hold after a while . I had a kindle when they first came out and am just getting back into it, and quite enjoying it ! |

A quick question if I can jump in on this thread please.
If I sign up for Kindle Unlimited and download about 50 books I am wanting then ditch Unlimited after the 3 month free period do I get to keep these books?

You can borrow 10 books at a time. Technically at the end of the trial period the books return automatically. Switching wifi off the device can allow you to keep them a bit longer though but it will have to remain off
