Anyone got a hatchback and a labrador?

Or other similar sized dog

We're both needing to change cars and at present we have a big saloon which the dog doesn't get in, and a medium SUV which we have to take when the dog is with us.

We want to get a bigger SUV and a smaller car, possibly a hatchback. We haven't had a hatchback since I sold my Metro in 1999. I've been driving SUVs and estates since then, so we don't know where to start or what to look for.

Any Dibbers got any suggestions? The dog likes his space and we probably want a new or almost new petrol small car.

We have an ID3 (about the same size as a golf) and a Labrador. She goes in a hammock on the back seat but she has plenty of room.

Used to have a Focus... hatch back was more than big enough for our Labrador... now we have a Qashqai ... our Lab is 14 now so his days of jumping up into the motor are long gone... have been using the plastic ramp last few years... great idea for when your dog is in the twilight years or struggling with joints etc.

Honda Jazz is fine for our Labx , but I have to lift her in now. Tried a ramp but she won't use it.

Think it depends if you want the lab in the boot or on the back seat.
I have a Labrador and up until recently we had a corsa and a seat Leon. He went on the back seat of the Leon, but in the boot of the corsa (the back seats were permanently folded down)
I now have a small suv and he just about squishes in the boot of that, but I only put him in there as I’m worried about the leather seats as it’s a company car
He much prefers the boot of my husbands discovery

We have a Volvo estate - we have never used the dog guard - he can lie in the load area or on the back seat. He can't climb through to the front seat because he's too big.

Don't know about travelling in a smaller car - but keeping a dog from the front is ideal I think.

The only issue is with that is mine prefers not to be harnessed in. Having a loose dog can invalidate your insurance and so mine goes behind a dog guard just in case
