Thanks - but I think the commute might be tiring. While it might only be 15 mins to Tokyo station, Shibuya would be about 40 mins for example - but now I type i think worth looking into - i just need to get my head round (look into) how close Tokyo station is to the places we want to see in Tokyo.

We stayed in Akihabara during the world cup last year at the Best Western Hotel Fino - Was spectacular quality, hotel is only a year or so old, and was pretty much centrally located for everything that we wanted to do. I'd recommend it.

Wow! Really pleased for you

All being well we are looking at going out on the 9th May next year as we had to cancel our trip this year in May but I’m going to wait a little bit before we book it yet to see what happens.

Anthony,

We stopped at the Grand Palace Hotel for our Tokyo leg. Thats a pretty central hotel with a station over the road. The problem we found is that we would need to make a couple of changes to go somewhere - those changes add a fair few minutes to each leg. If we balance "getting from Okura bay" to Maihama train as being the same as "hotel to local station and first train" then you have the 15 mins from Maihama to Tokyo. The trains are regular and you get into Tokyo station, this means a single change for pretty much anywhere, plus the benefit of JR legs - we did burn through our Suica cards using the non JR outside the Hotel. But you could get a hotel next to a major line so you wont have this issue - choices choices.

We are in the early planning of TDJ and OSJ for summer 2022 and although we dont intend doing a big Tokyo stint again (apart from Disney) we will be commuting as the benefits outweigh the inner city hotels (for us, your mileage may vary). We didnt know how reliable the subway was or how easy it was to navigate Tokyo station (you see the headlines reference volume of people going through and have visions of grand central station madness at 9AM)
