Key West Express

Has anyone been on the Key West Express from either from Fort Myers or Marco Island? Thinking about booking a return trip this summer and would appreciate your comments.

I'm interested in this. We were going to go down and stay on the keys this time but it was cost/time prohibitive. We may try this. I know it's a 3 hr journey though which may put us off!

We have done it from Fort Myers...

Make sure you book the parking at the same time as the tickets...It was $10...And make sure you print off the boarding passes..

The boat is fab...Spacious and plenty of seating inside and on deck..
There is a bar and also a snack bar ...don't have the coffee though...It's rank..

There was a couple of movies being shown on the TV screens and a lot of people had playing cards with them to pass the time.

It takes about 4 hours to get to Key West...And the crossing was very smooth.

We headed to the Southern Most Point first..As that gets really busy..and then walked back up Duval Street and stopped at Sloppy Joe's...
We ate at The Blue Heaven Cafe...Yummy food and fab atmosphere..Chickens and rooster were strutting around everywhere.

We just did the day at Key West...So we got back on the Express after about 5 1/2 hours...
It was a fab day... Very hot...
It was a bit choppy on the sail home...Just a heads up..In case of sea sickness..😷

We will definitely do it again..

I have done it at least 20 times from Ft.Myers.
It depends on what you want to do in the Keys and how long you are staying.

The boat ride is 3 hours to 4 hours depending on the waters. But, you access to bathrooms, food, and a bar. It is a unique experience.

If you compare to it to driving you are missing out on seeing the Everglades and driving on the Overseas Highway. It is a great drive.

Ultimately, if you are staying for a few hours or 1-3 days it is worth it. Otherwise it is not worth it.
