Has anyone tagged a cruise onto the end of hols?

Looking for a bit of advice?

We (2adults, 2 kids aged 15 & 13) are looking to have 2 weeks in Disney in the kid's holidays 2018 & tag a cruise on the end before flying home (NOT the Disney cruise line BTW).

My wife gets travel sick and is worried about the cruise, so we would like to do a short taster cruise of a week maximum. We'd prefer the larger ships, as there seems to be more to do & appear more stable (sick free hopefully).

Anyone have any advice regarding destinations/travel to ports/Cruise ship provider/late or early booking. All much appreciated

We are doing a week at Disney then 3 or. 4 nights either cruise or beach then week at universal, if we do a cruise it will be carnival as they are the cheapest and we have been with them in Europe though prefer Royal Caribbean.

My wife gets travel sick in the car and on a train if she faces the wrong way but on 6 cruises she has been travel sick once and that was in a force 8 a cross the bay of biscay when many of the crew were even being sick. To be honest very few people are seasick in normal conditions and if you are then the medics can give you a jab. You do not get the same feeling of movement that you do even on a ferry take her for a ride on a ferry to see how she gets on.

We cruise quite a bit. This past year we cruised back to Europe at the end of our Disney trip. 14 days, so not what you're looking for I know but Port Canaveral is very close to WDW, approx an hour, and there's quite a few non Disney cruises that sail out of there.
She shouldn't be too worried about seasickness. These modern ships are very stable. Sometimes you forget you're even on a ship (think this is a bit sad really, I prefer to see the ocean but the huge new mega ships sometimes put you more in mind of a shopping mall!)
Google Port Canaveral and you should find a schedule of ship departures through the year. Two excellent (non Disney) cruise forums are CruiseCritic and Cruise.Co.Uk. Cruising is a bit like Disney, be warned, it can be addictive

No travel sickness for us last time, just a funny feeling the first night (getting our sea legs on!)
We went RCI last year after 2 weeks at Disney, then surprised kids with extra 5 days at Universal post cruise 😀
We were on Freedom from Port Canaveral, easy journey from Orlando. Huge ship with loads to do for all.
We all loved it so going again next year 😎

We've done it twice already and doing it again in January... It's a great way to relax at the end of a busy WDW stay...
We normally stick to Disney when we do it, however any cruise line would do, of course.
If you would like a bigger ship, Royal Caribbean is our best choice, so much to do and ships are huge !
Not sure if any of their ships will be at Port Canaveral in 2018 but definitely worth a try.
Those cruises would be a week long and most likely go to the Bahamas and a bit further down like Mexico and Jamaica. Don't forget that cruises are always cheaper when they are put on sale and prices only keeps on going up until the very end where sometimes you can get bargains as they want to fill the gaps but you won't get a lot of choice. If you need any further advice, don't hesitate to contact me in PM.

We've cruised three times out of Florida before or after a "static" holiday. Never for a short one but two of a week and one of two weeks. Two with Carnival and one with Princess. We've sailed out of Port Canaveral, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale.

Never felt seasick in the Caribbean. The only time I felt a bit queasy was crossing the Bay of Biscay when sailing to the Canaries or the Med.

Thanks for all the great advice...

I'd love to book well in advance for the best cruise price, but then it puts a strain on trying to get reasonable priced flights to suit.

Better get my 'cruise' forum head on

Last year over Christmas we did 8 nights at OKW, then 4 nights on the Disney dream and then 2 nights at AoA. It was nice getting off the cruise and knowing the holiday wasn't totally over!

We'll probably do something similar again at Christmas in 2018.

The only other thing I would add is that with most cruise lines you need to be off the ship fairly early in the morning, and your flight home may not be till the evening. We don't drive when in Florida so adding on another couple of days at WDW was ideal as we didn't waste a day at the airport.
