Have a Great Trip
Thankyou. Both are really interesting bits of info.

Buffet? Let’s hope this changes.

Crater? That is very interesting. The journey to from the Canyon via Winslow to Tucson Int should take 7 hrs. I predict that we only need 15 minutes in Winslow. I have ample time for a further stop en-route.. so I will look into it (the crater &#128515.

Really looking forward to this, I'm extremely jealous of you returning to California . It stole a piece of my heart when we went in 2019!
Our friends have just got back from San Fran and stayed in the Riu Plaza and highly recommended it. It's in a fab location!

Monterey is one of my favourite places in Cali, we had a fantastic meal at Lalla Grill's in the Spindrift Inn.

The PCH is a trip you'll never forget! Try and make time for Pffeifer State beach, just stunning.

In Vegas we had a fantastic breakfast buffet in the Paris hotel and a lunchtime one in the Red Rock casino which is a short drive from the strip but so much cheaper! Also had a great meal at the Grand Lux Cafe in the Venetian.
Vegas isn't to everyone's tastes, in fact I wasn't sure I was going to like it when we first arrived, but I think its one of those places you have to visit once in a lifetime!

I'm looking forward to following along

We are far more excited about this one than our recent Toronto/Florida vacation.

Just had a read through your plans, you definitely think along the same lines as me when travelling. I am finding in my research that hotels are so much more than Florida. Where do you get your tips from - is it all internet research?

I had to look up Bubblegum alley - I have to say it made me feel a bit icky! It's a bit like a poor mans version of the love locks in Paris

Tips?
I am an avid reader of trip reports and pick up on the ideas of others as my own imagination is somewhat limited. In addition, I have always liked research.

In addition, I have had 3 further West Coast vacations booked up, paid for and then cancelled due to Covid. You will find them in the Pretrip report section, starting with the word ‘CANCELLED’. They are all rather different in route and Hotel selections. I have left them there in case they might assist others.

I had until recently a very dull job where I was sat on my backside for many hours every day, with nothing to do whatever.. but an iPad and Wi-Fi access. I now have a very dull job, but where I have to work!

You are right about the Hotel prices when on the Coast, but you can get better deals when booking rather early.. like soon after booking the flights. I always book with free cancellation so that in the event of a price drop, I can take advantage. Even at just 54 days out, I am still checking on the ‘off chance’.

How to book? Price drives my flight bookings and when I see a deal in the general areas that I want.. then I book it. I fill in the dots as to where I will visit, afterwards and through .. thorough research.
A good example of my thought process would be the Boston trip that is linked to my signature. I booked Boston and home from Miami on price alone, with no real idea of an itinerary. I simply was keen on Boston and knew that the boys would want to visit the Florida Coasters . I filled in the dots as I went along . It is my favourite vacation, thus far..
Boston staying on a boat, AMTRAC to NY, flight La Guardia to Dayton OH, drive to Cincinnati, flight to Orlando, then drive to Tampa, Naples, Miami.

Hoping that explains!

Currently doing very early prep on Hanoi, Ha Long bay, Ankor Wat and Thailand!

Am in final stages of planning LHR, Vancouver, Oahu, Seattle LHR, with flights and Hotels all booked and paid for. The itinerary is not yet finalised!

Edited at 10:27 AM.

I sometimes think that I get more fun from planning than I do from actually ‘doing’.

Ha, me too. I drive the other half mad at times.

Waiting impatiently for my flight window to open so I can start getting prices together, hoping for a decent price, but not sure what to expect. Things are so different now...

I can't decide between the south and west rim - want to do the south but know that my teen will find the longer drive more difficult - decisions, decisions.

For us, it was simple and convenient.

The South Rim at Yavapai is apparently among the best spots in the whole canyon for sightseeing and in addition, it fits perfectly with my wish to stand on a certain corner before proceeding in a southerly direction to Tucson.

7 years ago today I took my Mum to Vegas. When we booked my Mum said there was no way she was going to the Grand Canyon. I had been to the west rim twice before with Gordon and knew exactly why she didn’t want to go. She was scared we would fall in, I know how she thinks. So I had looked to see if there were any other parts that had fences, and the south rim does.
A few months later she said her friends had said to her she couldn’t go all the way to Vegas and not see the GC. So I asked if she wanted and that I had found a tour that went to a bit that had fences. Honestly to see her reaction to it was just priceless. My Mum doesn’t really get emotional about things like this, whereas I do, and she was just speechless.
It’s stunning.
I am really looking forward to your trip report. I miss the West Coast.
