BA full refund

Hi all, appreciate everyone’s plans are up in the air currently but wondered if anyone knew where we’d stand if BA cancelled our flight due to a travel ban. We’re actually due to fly after the ban (assuming it matches the European ban of 30 days, can’t actually see a definite date) but you’d imagine it would be extended. We won’t be able to travel at another time this year for a two week holiday to Florida. BA are currently giving travel vouchers and waiving costs to move the holiday, but if they cancel our flight are we entitled to a refund as well? Can’t see anything on the website.

We were due to travel on the 30th March with BA we have made no contact with them what so ever and an hour after the announcement from Trump we have received and email informing us we will get a full refund in 5-7 days 😊 so I’m hoping I never have to even pick up the phone x

The key here is you need to wait for them to cancel your flight, then you can get a refund. Don't call up first and get a voucher.

The Civil Aviation Authority has some really good information about your rights under EU legislation (which thankfully for many people is still in force during the transition period).
Read it here:
caa/Passengers/Res...cancellations/

Understanding your rights before speaking to your airline is important, because they will offer a resolution that is more favourable to them. The voucher offer is their opening gambit, if people take them then they're happy, but if you push for a full refund for a cancelled flight they can't refuse.
I suppose the issue is also whether the flight is cancelled or whether they still operate the flight and they are offering the voucher to people who can't fly on it due to the travel restrictions.

Surely they have to offer a refund. I am unsure how they can still operate the flight if you aren't allowed in the USA?

I'm guessing they may well be obligated to honour the needs of US citizens booked on flights from here to there.

What happens if the flight is still going taking US citizens back, the airline hasn’t refunded your ticket because the flight still exists. Does that mean you have To turn up at the airport to get on the flight and because the airline can’t let you on - can you get your money back then? Strange hypothetical question I know.

This would be the same as you turning up for a flight without a visa, its not the airline's responsibility if you are unable to enter the country.
So if the flight isn't going to be cancelled the better option would be whatever goodwill gesture the airline is offering.

But the OP has stated that they are travelling after the ban, so they will be cancelling the flight themselves (if they chose not to travel), so a voucher then would be a good outcome.

Or BA point you to their T&C's regarding cancellation by you.

Or if BA has to cancel due to the ban then a full refund would be the probable outcome.
