New York JFK - Manhattan transfers

Morning

So we're stopping for one night in NYC on our way home from Florida..

We should arrive about 10am at JFK.

We're staying at the Paramount hotel - Although I keep thinking it'll be cancelled as we paid about £32 for the room for the night. I'm sure it was a mistake on the price, but room voucher has been issued so...

Anyway anyone know how long it would take if we get the air train & subway please?

Would it be easy for us to get to our hotel? 235 W 46th Street, Between Broadway & 8th Avenue, New York City

I've had a quick look & assume we'd get the red line from JFK to Jamaica station?

But then do we get the blue E line or grey Lirr line?

Does anyone have the total cost & approx time it would take?

Deciding if this would be a good option or to get a shuttle? Which we've done before.

Thanks.

It's just over an hour, about $8.

You'd get the AirTrain to Jamaica, not the Howard Beach line. Then you'd get the E line to 42nd Street/Port Authority station. Get on at the rear of the train and take the exit at that end of the platform and you should come up at the 44th Street exit which would leave you a couple of blocks to walk north to your hotel on 46th Street.
The fare would be around $8 - $5 for the AirTrain and $3 for a single ride fare on the subway. As you're only there for a day I assume you won't be getting a Metro Card.
It should take around 45-50 minutes, with another 5 minute walk at the end.

If your only staying one night, your time in NYC will be precious. I'd jump in a cab and make the most of it.

A taxi is more convenient, particularly with luggage, but it probably won't save much time given the traffic in New York and how close the OP's hotel is to an E line subway station.
But the subway won't have the wow factor of arriving in a cab.

Thanks everyone this is a great help.

We've been twice before, so wasn't too fussed about the cab.. In saying that I'm not sure DH will be too impressed me making him get the train & subway with luggage, but it's going to save around $50 which I know we can spend elsewhere, and if the time difference isn't that much I'm happy for the saving.. especially with the rate at the moment.

We got the airtrain to Jamaica Station and then the LIRR to Penn Station, took about an hour and was so easy, we then walked to our hotel on W48st.

Airtrain and subway is so easy, we did it in July, If I were you I would get the E train, it's closer to your hotel than getting the LIRR to penn station, this is what we did, to get the subway after arriving at Jamaica you need to follow the signs to sutphin boulevard, just a few minutes walk and down a lift, it took us less than an hour to get into manhattan
