Help with New York accomodation

Before we hit Orlando, we're having a couple of nights in NY for the first time. My DW is almost obsessed with quiet during the night in a hotel room. Therefore we obviously have to choose the right hotel, in the right area. Can anyone suggest an area that is known for a little peace and quiet during the night? One suggestion made to us was the Wall St/financial district (especially as we're staying during the weekend). Thanks

We've stayed in both The Paramount and Radio City Apartments, both of which are just off Times Square. What we found, especially with Radio City, was that as soon as we got onto a side street, the noise and hustle and bustle melted away.

We're going back to Radio City in a few weeks for the third time!

We stayed at the Tryp by Wyndham near Times Square last month. It's on 35th street so a few blocks back from Times Square and on 8th avenue so much quieter. We also asked for a high floor and were at the very top. It was lovely and quiet. No traffic noise or anything including sirens and as we were very close to the police station that was a surprise

I stayed in the Hilton Times Square, this hotel is right in the middle of all the noise and busyness, but the hotel itself starts on something like the 20th floor so there is no street noise in your hotel room. You do step out into very busy streets though.

This year we're staying at the Affinia Shelburne ( the Affinia hotels are doing a great international travel rate if you book direct), its in Murray Hill which is more residential, so less busy when we leave the hotel.

We've stayed at The Distrikt which is on 40th and 8th and is 2 mins from the heart of Times Square, and The Belvedere which is a bit further up at 48th and 8th. I'd stay at either again. Distrikt is more in the action, and Belvedere is a little calmer and closer to Central Park, but still only a few minutes from Times Square.

Depends what you want to see as to where you should stay really. To get to the financial district from Times Square on the Subway will only take 30 mins or so.

Stayed in the Westin, Novatel and Sofitel all in close proximity to Times Square.

Sofitel was by far the quietest but also the most expensive. It's by far the best location to, one block from Bryant Park

We have stayed in the Courtyard by Marriott on Lexington on two occasions and asked for a high floor, we did not hear any noise. We have also stayed in the New Yorker which is in a busier area, and again we did not hear any noise. We also stayed in an hotel just off Times Square again no noise. I think once you are in your hotel, you are usually on a high floor, and so tired, that you do not hear or even notice any noise. Enjoy.
