Tax, Tax, Tax!
I've had a very brief look online but can't figure out sales tax for Orlando. What is the current rate and what does it apply to, is it like VAT here where it's added to non-essential items or food eaten on-site?
Last time we went to Canada 10 years ago sales tax was 15% made up of two parts (7% & 8%) and was applied pretty similar to our VAT over here in the UK. Anybody have the foggiest? |

It's similar to VAT. It is charged at the til and is between 6 and 7 1/2 % depending on which county you're in. (The state tax is 6% but counties can add a discretionary tax on top).
There's also a tax on accommodations that is probably already in your charges. |

Just remember the prices you see on the shelf are excluding the tax not including the tax like the UK

6% on everything you buy in shops & 13% on property rental (but will be included in the price you're quoted)
Just remember the price on labels in shops excludes tax |

Food bought from the supermarket is mostly tax free though. Petrol includes tax.

In Orange county where most of our property is located, the sales tax is 6.5%. Looks like the rest of the surrounding counties are at 7%. Seminole (where I live) just voted on the penny tax increase but I am not sure if it has taken effect yet (we voted on it May 20th).
hope this helps.

Officially it's 7%, but we've only ever been charged 6.5% (you'll actually be surprised on the amount of items that are actually tax exempt!).
