MS Office
Hiya guys
apologies its a computer software thread in photo/video but need some advise. got new Lenovo laptop with preloaded MS Office 365, which trial has now expired. Laptop is only for home use for myself. As i want to avoid a monthly software bill that Office 365 only seems to offer... can I buy/download the Office 2016 version and load this on laptop ? if so will machine cope with both loaded on or how would it work ? cheers

If you can, Office is likely expensive. It used to run at around £350 per license. Do you need MSOffice or could you manage with OpenOffice. I've not checked recently, but it is free and used to be fully MS compatible.
I'm lucky that I get MS Office Pro through my employer for under £15. Just shows the mark-up! Update: Office 2016 is £229 from a well known PC shop on the interwebs

Have you considered using Google Docs?
It is an online version of office where everything is stored online so you can access it anywhere. It only requires you to have a Gmail account which is free. A much cheaper alternative to MS Office |

Free options:
Google Docs Open Office MS Office from someone in education ~(students and teachers can get it free) I've used Open Office for years. |

its worth checking to see if your workplace has an MS agreement in place. we get a copy of office for a tenner
also, if one of your kids is a student, that could net you a cheaper copy too... hth |

I get it for free and so do my kids as we are all in education. Worth looking at! I’m a teacher.

If you use it at work there might be a possibility you can use your work license to sign in to O365 at home. I can install on up to five devices..
Check with your employer first of course! |

As posted, check if your employers run the HUP programme.

Unless you are going to do anything really complex and need the macro elements then just get a copy of open office , it works just as well.

Another vote for Open Office. Completely free, & almost identical to Microsoft Office
