We had the escape a couple of years ago. Was a great car. Last year we had a Santa Fe and that was also a nice car to drive for the holiday.

Ford Fusion/Mondeo we have had last two years. Very easy to drive, large enough not to be nudged out of the way on the I-4 and plenty of room to hide 4 suitcases in the boot

That's strange, the only problem we had with the Fusion was the small opening to the trunk! once one large case was in there was only room for soft bags. great car to drive though.

We have had an Escape, but the previous model, it was fine for us and two grandchildren plus luggage.

Most UK Mondeo are hatchback or estate. But over there it's called a fusion and a saloon version. Definately the same car as a UK saloon model though.

Yes, the saloon model is a pain for bulky suitcases. We were just ok but the hatchback would have been better if they did that model in the US

I’ve got the Mondeo over here and just returning from Italy it swallowed the hold and cabin baggage with plenty of room to spare. If I didn’t want something different to what I drive over here I’d have a Fusion in the states.

Thanks for the comments. Both seem pretty cheap to hire out and as it's just me and one case both will do the job.
