Discovery Cove - fear of birds?
Hello,
We’re thinking of taking advantage of the £70 discovery cove tickets for our trip next week (eeeeeek! ) I’ve just been watching videos on YouTube and it looks amazing, especially the lazy river. My only worry is that I have a ridiculous fear of birds. I know it’s stupid, but I just can’t get over it. I rally overreact when I’m near birds (I cross the road if there’s one in my path, I’ve hyperventilated when a group of pigeons gathered near me, cried when a seagul wing touched my head) It’s an embarrassing fear. Last time we were at AK and a bird walked near our table I ditched my lunch and ran away...crikey I sound like a nutter! So, will I be able to avoid the birds at DC or will it be impossible? Thanks for any advice x |

Part of the lazy river goes through the Aviary so just miss out the lazy river if you are bothered. there is plenty else to see and do, otherwise just stay under the water when you go through the Aviary!

Leave it until the afternoon before going near the Avery. When we went at this time, because the birds had obviously been well fed all day, we couldn’t get any to come near us.

I have a phobia of birds. I too would fear passing out with panic if I had a big crowd of pigeons near me and yes would run away if one came near my table.
We went to discovery cove, I'm glad I went and would go again. There was the odd bird about in the restaurant area but I had dh and kids on high alert to chase them away. It wasn't too bad. Worst case scenario I would get up. We didn't really look about for the best non bird spot which would have been sensible with hindsight! The lazy river has one section which is an aviary. It's not like there are loads and loads flapping about but there are a few. I didn't like it the first time I went through. I did go again and clung to dh and ducked right down low and let him guide me along. That was better. There are exit and reentry spots around the river so I bet you could get out a bit before and get back in. The aviary stretch of the river isn't that long from memory you'd be through in a few minutes. It's nothing that isn't manageable and I really wouldn't let it stop you going. It might be worth calling them before you go.

Yes forgot about that, they are everywhere, mostly egrets (stork like white birds) they are Florida's equivalent to pigeons

I really don't like most birds or fish, we went to Discovery Cove last summer. It was fine, I avoided them without issue.
