What amazing family times and memories you have all made. We hope to do route66 sometime soon, after our trip was cancelled during COVID.

In Hooters, we are big fans. Especially my DH for some weird reason. 😂😂
Part of our memories will always be these trip reports and that is one reason why I write them.

In my dotage, I will be able to sit back and ‘relive’ all of the memories that we have created.

Hooters? A marvellous institution that serves good food at a good price.. and with a smile.

Welcome Loki - what a gorgeous kitty! Really enjoyed reading your report - we’ve visited the West but would like to see more of it and Arizona in particular looks fab.

Enjoy your trip east!

Having just joined The DIBB ( I need to relearn Orlando so I’m prepared for my trip in October with my family of first timers), I have to tell you this is like a novel with no closure and I can’t cope!

Why? Why is this the last time? Why are so sure? It’s making me sad!

I try to write my trippies as an honest, no holds barred story, whilst hopefully adding some humour as well as information useful to those who may follow. I write up every evening and get pleasure from doing it.

Why are we out of Orlando?

Because my Children are now 21 and 18.
I have no further interest in Theme Parks, Rides (other than the real biggies at 6 flags and co) or the crowding, the need to over plan in Disney to get on rides, the pricing of a night in a deluxe Universal Hotel, the pricing and quality of theme park food etc.

This was my 14th visit to Orlando since 2005, having purchased 5 Disney 14s, 7 Universals and around a dozen DC Ultimates. The last 6 or so visits have got progressively shorter as we have found other States, Locations etc that we very much prefer, just adding Orlando on to the end as a blast in DC, BG, SW before flying home. 14 Orlando’s and 3 other West Coasters, Canada Hawaii and the like are a fair old hit, given that 2 years were written off by Covid. I am up to around 32 States visited.

I am sick to death of the progressive withdrawal of park benefits and the introduction of what is effectively ‘pay to ride’ with Genie plus etc. I don’t like it either when planning your days in a park become more complex than your days at work.

I believe that the USA no longer represents good value, particularly with the insistence on ridiculous gratuities for carrying a plate, pouring a beer etc.

I want to see other, ‘real’ things.

What have I done about it?
Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia with Kooning next January.
A 14 night Caribbean Cruise with Princess next October.

Time is running out at 64 and there are many things that I still want to see or experience.

Oh my! Now I’m actually in tears. Lost my Dad last week, it’s his 64th birthday next week.

I’m a bit deflated that my family are just starting our Orlando adventures. I used to go years ago, pre-kids and remember popping my paper ticket into the fast pass booth for a printed return time.

I know it’s not the same now. My husband is not really looking forward to it as he does feel the planning and cost makes it seem like anything but a holiday.

But my Dad loved it and the kids are desperate. Who am I to take away their first walk down Mainstreet? I wouldn’t choose MK but then I’ve done it several times.

However they don’t know any different.

My daughter is 12 and my son 9 and yes we want them to experience the world through travel. So I’ll be reading your trip reports for my future ideas.

But we need to walk before we can run, and the idea of ten more years planning trips with them is exciting.

I too, loved the Old Paper Fastpass system.

Your current position is identical to mine as of 10 years ago.

It is perhaps worth pointing out that there are many many other things within an hour or two of Orlando that may hold considerable appeal to both your children and your partner.
It may pay to hold them in reserve in case your children’s interest in the parks wanes towards the end of the vacation.

Kayaking is good at De Soto, Rainbow River and Crystal River… as well as other locations. You can find all of these in my other trip reports.

The Beaches are also as good as you will find in most places in the World.

You will have an amazing time, I am sure. It is simply that we are at a different stage of our ‘life journey’ to yourselves!

And so to the mementos and souvenirs..

Well, it has been a hectic few months since our return, what with the building work etc. Here our traditional mementoes.

The photo album is complete.

The Disney vacation frame is complete and has joined the others on our (new) bedroom wall.

Mandie has finally completed her scrapbook of the vacation.

And so, we look forward to our next vacation, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand in January. One issue that is causing me a huge meltdown is just how we can make an appropriate Framed Memento.
Whilst I have two more ‘Our Disney Vacation Frames, can I really use one for a totally non USA vacation?

Mandie and I are at odds on that one.. maybe if I used a plain insert, but with identical cut outs?
