I had these as a teen. Always partial blindness and sometimes a headache too.

I found it was triggered by lack of sugar, lack of food, boredom, standing for long periods of time

My son had them. He had a daily medication prescribed for about 18 months. He was then taken off meds and he has largely been migraine free. Doc said he needed something to 'reset' which is what the meds did.

Headache diary is def step one. Incl how bad at onset. What he was doing and then how bad at peak and duration.

Mine started randomly as a teenager into my early 20s. They eventually got so bad I saw a neurologist and thankfully I can now manage them much better. Keeping a diary of how often you get them and possible triggers is a good idea. Mine are usually brought on by excessive dairy and bright lights.

Migraines really are the worst. I hope the doctor gives you some answers 😊

Our 14 year old son has been having very scary migraine lately and has just been prescribed meds to prevent. His finger, arm and face goes numb his face dropped like he was having a stroke. Not for long but we both got a terrible fright sometimes it starts like this then the headache or vice versa. The meds seem to be working at the moment so hopefully we won’t get anymore.
All 3 of our kids get migraine all different but our sons is the worst. Hope you can get something to prevent them too!

I had my first migraine at about 13 years old. I lost my vision completely for a few minutes so my dad drove me to the local eye hospital because I thought I was going blind and was terrified. Once I arrived there the thumping headache started and I vomited. I had a full check up and the medical team concluded that I had a migraine headache.
Unfortunately both DD’s have inherited my dodgy genes but luckily don’t get them as regularly as me. I think ours are hormonal and we all have to be careful not to have too much sun and wear our sunglasses. I still get some spectacular auras but none as dramatic as that first one.
I would suggests trying to work out the triggers and get the medication which works for him. Hopefully this is just an initial surge and his symptoms will become more infrequent and settled.

I sometimes get the numbness in my face and hands and it feels like it goes down my throat too and is very scary. I also sometimes get vomiting, normally just feeling nauseous though. My doctor isn’t very sympathetic, he suggested I try a menopause cake to ease my symptoms, I’ll not be bothering, I’ve been living with them for 40 years, I’ll just carry on as I am.

My ds is 13 and started getting migraines in December. For him bright lights are awful for him when he has one so he lies in bed in a dark until it starts to get better. For now they just last a few hours. He also got numbness down his left arm. We spoke to the dr on a phone appointment and he then asked us to a face to face appointment to physically check him over. He diagnosed migraines and we got some tablets, one to take on the onset of a migraine and one for two hours later. There is a history of migraines in teenage hood through his dads family.
Luckily he hasn’t had one for a while.

I suffered all through secondary school. It turned out to be a chalk dust issue. It would spark off weekly migraines where I’d be knocked out for 1-2 days. As I got older they vanished and now I get them rarely. I always know when one is coming on due to ocular disturbances- if I take my migraine meds then it knocks it out.

My daughter started getting really bad headaches at 16 and was prescribed medication from the gp which didn’t help. Completely messed up her A-level years. At 18, she went to a clinic to get contraceptives and as part of the check up there they took her blood pressure, which was sky-high. Her gp had never bothered checking that. She was referred back to her doctor who said it was probably just white coat syndrome. She was given a 24-hour blood pressure monitor to wear at home and the results showed that her blood pressure was dangerously high, even when she was asleep. A specialist at the hospital finally prescribed her blood pressure tablets and the migraines stopped. She’s 26 now and will need medication for the rest of her life but she doesn’t suffer with headaches anymore. Might be worth getting other possibilities checked out OP.
