MAGIC BANDS- can anyone use one?
Hi, we are staying off site next year. I have read a lot about magic bands and know that up until now they are only available for resort guests. However I thought I had read that they will be available to buy at the park so I’m wondering whether this means I’d be able to buy them for my family and link my bank card to save carrying my card around? Thanks

They've always been available at the parks to buy for anyone, it was just that resort guests got one included in their package. We bought some in 2015 when staying offsite for the convenience of it.

We stayed offsite in 2016 and each had a magic band. Made it easier when using memory maker. You can buy them from Disney Springs if you want one before you head in to the park.

Anyone can buy a magic band anywhere, but Only ONSITE guests can indirectly link a card, as the magic band actually is linked to the hotel booking for which you would have the card associated as guarantee.
Hope this makes sense :-)

Nobody can link their credit card to a magic band, but guests staying on site can charge to their room account via the magic band.
You can then link your credit card to your resort bill. In early visits when the magic band was released, we never had a credit card linked to our account and I would visit guest services every few days to pay off the bill with travellers cheques, or a prepaid credit card. The magic bands have always been available for anyone, but the benefits of offsite guests was limited.

No as explained, nobody can link a credit card to a band, onsite guests may use the band to charge bills to their hotel room.
As an offsite guest all you can use the magic band for is to tap into fast pass queues and in order to be automatically tagged in photos on some rides. |

Interesting thread - so is there any benefit to getting these if staying offsite?

It’s more about convenience really. You can get in the park using it and if you have fast passes, you don’t have to worry about getting your phone to your ticket out because it’s just on your wrist. If you have photo pass as well, you can just swipe your band when you’re with the photographer. I like having mine because it makes things easier and I don’t have to worry about finding cards in my bag or my phone dying.
