Migraines in teens...
A few months ago my 14yr old son started to complain of blurred vision in one eye every so often? ... had an eye test no issues found ...this week its happened again 3 times only this times followed up with a painfull throbbing headache ..it sounds to me like a migraine ? As myself and our other son suffer with them..but I'm wondering why he's gone from nothing to now having 3 this week ? ...calling the GP in the morning... anyone else's teen's had anything similar?

I had them regularly late teens and in my 20’s. At the time someone suggested getting a feverfew plant and make an infusion with the leaves - worked for me.

Could it be cluster headaches?

My sympathy to all Migraine sufferers. I think I was about 12 or 13 when mine started and 50+ years later I still get them.
I was all geared up with my 2 Children to deal with the issue should they develop them but to date they haven’t. My first course of action would be to try and identify what is causing them With me it’s flashing lights, so low sun in the Autumn when I’m driving is a nightmare. My Mum it was cheese, citrus and chocolate. So many good drugs around now to mitigate the effects compared with years ago.

Sounds similar to my daughter. Started about 15, still has them at 19. No idea what kicked it off. She now has medicine to take when she feels one coming on.

yeah, could be a migraine. If he takes paracetamol, try take them as soon as the blurred vision starts. Try help him make a diary so he can spot any triggers. He might also recognise the blurred vision, mine is always in an arc on my right eye. My triggers are flashing lights and strong smells, like body sprays and zoflora. I’ve also had them after eating takeaways, it must be something in the spices.

I was probably about the same age as your son when mine started. I am 48 now and still get the odd one but nothing like I did when I was younger. My DD was also around 14 when hers started too. We have both never found our triggers but often wondered if it was more hormonal for us. Sending best wishes to your son x

I have been having migraines since I was about 13. It definitely sounds like your son is getting them. I’m pretty sure that mine are hormone related and also stress and tiredness. But sometimes it doesn’t even seem to have a trigger! They are a right nuisance and if it turns out that this is what your son has, he has my utter sympathy. My friends son is also 13 and he has started getting them, he has medication to take at the onset, but he does have to go home from school unfortunately as he feels so bad. The new medications are so much better now, I can just about manage to soldier on at work now, but I used to have to go straight home, not easy working in a school. I also take a preventative daily, but I still get clusters at various times. Hopefully the dr will have some answers for you.

My trigger was (is) chocolate so not I cant eat it - even a smidge or a sniff is a huge no no for me (also bananas ) - I cant be around people who eat a banana and have to ask them to put them away as I will throw up in seconds then have a blinding headache

Mine started in late teens, the pain would start behind my left eyeball and the area it covered was like where the Phantom of the Opera mask would cover. I'd have to lay down in a very dark room and not even move a muscle and just sleep. The next day I'd feel quiet weak too. I was prescribed some tablets to take daily for them but over the years I got them less often. My main trigger was extreme stress I was being under. Like said previously the low autumn sun, stress and some red wines cause it.
