Boris: A difficult year for travel

Boris Johnson says 19 July is still looking like the end of all coronavirus restrictions in England but it will be a difficult year for foreign travel.

The prime minister says England is now one of the most vaccinated countries in the world with second jabs offered to all over-50s, vulnerable groups and care workers. He says 60% of adults have had two jabs.

Speaking during a visit to the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control, part of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, he told reporters the vaccination rollout "is going gangbusters".

He says: "But when it comes to travel we will certainly be looking at that but I want to stress that this is going to be, what ever happens, a difficult year for travel, there will be hassle, there will be delays I'm afraid the priority has got to be to keep the country safe and stop the virus from coming back in."

He says he is "looking at" an exemption from quarantine for people who have had both vaccinations but says, "The emphasis is going to be making sure we can protect the country from the virus coming back in."

He says the government's priortity is to continue along the roadmap cautiously and irreversibly and says "it still looks to me as if July 19 is a terminus point".

The second last paragraph fills me with some hope for my own personal situation, but my god, what would it take to give people some hope and a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel, no end in sight, just constant negativity from him and his cronies.

Then you'll be going nowhere for a long time.

I'm almost expecting Patel to.open up a couple of holiday camps just to keep Brits happy ..a version of Butlins without the fun .. I jest but I've never seen such crap

On t',other hand. How good will Boris look when he announces the exact opposite.. citing all sorts of blah blah blah. Everyone will forget what a ... He is and all will be good

Here we go again! Difficult year for travel except if you are an exception for what Boris is interested in!
If you dare to just want a holiday then you are going to face a tough time from this bunch of idiots!

I dont see how the airlines/travel companies will survive, unless you believe the conspiracy theories that destruction of the travel sector is all part of the plan.

I wish they would just draw a line under it and say right no travel unless essential till start of 2022 assuming there is an industry left to facilitate this

They are going to have to start the ball rolling with double vaccinated people one way or another at some point.

Possibility of more lockdowns. The scare tactics continue. This government have completely lost the plot. Double standards, hypocrisy, leak after leak to the media, questionable procurement procedures, stalling putting a variant ridden country on the red list for a trade deal. Boris is a liability and Starmer and company question very little.

There's no hope.
