Here now too and DS17 has stayed in the villa alone for 3 days and when we went to Discovery Cove he didn’t move from the sunbed except to go sit in the car for an hour. He also sat in the car when etc went to play crazy golf!
We have decided to just let him get on with and try not to let it spoil everyone else’s fun but it is upsetting that he doesn’t want to join in and I have terrible mum guilt at leaving him (even though he doesnt want me there).
I’m another who has said ‘never again’ ……. until he is paying for it himself!

I love this thread! Honestly makes me feel better that we’re not alone out there 😂 My kids are 14 & 16 and generally they’re good as gold so will be interesting to see how they get on with the early mornings! We’re going with friends who have a 16, 13 & 12 year old so I’m hoping that they are occupied enough not to whinge about every little thing!

This thread is incredible. By the time I was 14 (1980) I was obsessed with amusement parks and simply couldn't get enough of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Southport Amusement park etc. heck I even got excited when the touring fair came to our local park! I knew of Disney World (only MK then of course) and was desperate to go but given my mum's financial situation knew that wasn't going to happen, didn't stop me thinking about it all the time though. Fast forward 10 years and after I had left Uni and had a good job I heard of the opening of HS. I told my then girlfriend (now wife) we were going. So at 24 I'm in Orlando so excited I could pee, after dumping our suitcases I insisted we drive around world drive. When I saw the archway tears actually came to my eyes! Needless to say we up at the crack of dawn every day and didn't leave the parks until late evening, so much so that on about the 7th day when I said to my girlfriend "let's go and relax by the pool for the rest of the afternoon and then get an early night" tears came to her eyes! So my 14 year old self would be telling all your teenage children to give their heads a wobble and realise just how lucky they are

My DS knows he is lucky to get any holidays abroad as my DH and I didn't go anywhere exciting as our parents could never have afforded it when we were kids, he also knows how hard we work to pay for everything.
Teenagers aren't bad, just a bit self absorbed and dramatic! As many posters have said best thing is to give them space at times and ignore any nonsense.
We always approach any holiday or trip with a view everyone gets to pick one thing they really want to do and everyone has to go along with it to get their 'one thing'. It's a useful bargaining chip!
