Sky was really slow to get going. Luckily I kind of knew where I was going and pulled up at a garage. We got some water and waited while the phones kicked in.

Sky was terrible on my android but ok on the iPhones.

I'll have a look into carplay.
The car we had previously with the satnav was a brand new Ford Taurus Limited so that's why it would have been working.
With Google maps you can download the map area you want in advance - that way at least the map doesn’t rely on data to load - neither does navigation, but you don’t get live traffic without the data connection.

If only we were that organised ...

Although actually I booked the hotel during our 3 hour wait on the tarmac at Heathrow as I knew I wouldn't want to drive over to Marco once we finally got there. Next time I'll remember the maps as well.

Even though our hire car had satnav we still used Googlemaps as backup. We downloaded the Florida map at home for offline use, which helped when we lost signal a few times

We had a suburban from Alamo that had a satnav but it was disabled. We just loaded up either Google or apple maps before we left villa or park/mall etc using WiFi and that worked for us. Doesn’t give you live traffic reports but that didn’t really matter.

I just read on here somewhere " hire car satnavs are usually disabled"

Is this true ? I've got an upcoming hire of a group Z at Miami and was hoping it would be built in.
Ours is disabled, Toyota Sienna from Miami Avis. Using Google maps through the android pairing thing so much the same providing data okay I guess or pre downloaded maps
