A great big beautiful - Cocktails and Food Report Complete - July/August 2022

We are here!

I will reply properly to everyone, thank you so much for rhe well wishes. Even on the plane I didn't quite let myself believe it, but we are here. We've had our first cocktail 😉 and I managed to sleep until 4.30am, which isn't bad so let's update with the rest of yesterday.


Plane food

Our arrival drink on the plane was a choice of water or OJ. Tut tut, no Prosecco...

The usual round of drinks and mini pack of pretzels. I had Aviation Gin and Tonic. Dave asked for red wine and got 2 bottles. Cheeky Devil!

I had pre ordered the vegetarian Asian meal, so this was delivered first. It was really good and I ate the vegetable curry first.

I also had a bottle of white wine.

The main meal was either chicken pie or vegetarian cottage pie. Both Dave and Kate went for the chicken. It looked good from what I saw. Kate didn’t eat anything instead she opted for her wrap.

Dave managed to eat all of his and Kate’s meals. I couldn’t believe it!

There were shortbread biscuits brought round which I enjoyed.

We could go and get crisps or more biscuits, but none of us were bothered about that. Kate and I ate the Pringles we brought and some of the sweets.

Afternoon tea for me was my Asian vegetarian meal. It was a tasty chick pea salad and strawberry fruit bar.

The main offering was a chicken salad baguette with a crunchie. Kate had both the mini crunchies and Dave had both the chicken sandwiches.

Overall the flight food vegetarian option was tasty. I'm not sure I'd bother again though. The normal main meal and afternoon tea looked fine and Dave certainly seemed to enjoy them.

We made it to All Star Sports by about 8.30pm and first on my list was to speak to Max. He was fine, he was making himself a bagel with cream cheese and watching Lord of the Rings, despite the lateness. We will basically be in the same time zone as him now we are 1000s on miles away. We also and gave him the next location for his treat.

The important stuff out of the way, now I could relax. Kate just wanted to lie in her bed so Dave and I went to the pool bar and I had a margarita and Dave had a bourbon breeze.

They were good and we were happy talking about the smell of Florida and the warmth. And just enjoying being here.

We bought a portion of chicken tenders and fries took them back to our room and shared them with Kate.

These were delicious and it was enough to fill a whole and satisfy us before a little unpacking and then bed.

It was pretty decent and we all were happy with our dinner choices. Breakfast is always good, how can they go wrong? Just cook the bacon and sausage and eggs...

We were really lucky with the upgrade as we were all seated together and the leg room was brilliant. I could stretch out my legs and not touch the wall in front!

In the end the SSSS wasn't too bad. She was nervous about any questions they might ask. I tried to reassure her that she qould just be honest as she hadn't been doing anything that wasn't allowed so it would be fine. Although the hand scanner thing they use to see if you've been handling explosives went off - but they said she must have been using hand sanitiser and just waved her through.

Flight went pretty quickly really so all good in the end.

Sounds like you had a good travel day.

So pleased that Max survived his first day, I’d be pretty panicky about leaving one of my girls too but I’m sure as the days go by and he manages then you’ll start to relax. The biggest reassurance will be that he replies to messages or answers the phone as soon as you call to avoid worry. That’s always my thing, if they reply (which they should as they usually have their phones glued to their hands, well mine do anyway!) quickly(ish) then it puts my mind at rest.

Impressed with the plane food, your meals looked lovely. So nice to see you get your first cocktail at the pool bar and take in that Florida smell.

Can’t beat Disney fries and tenders for a quick bite, always fills a gap. Great start
