What do you do about breakdown cover

So my travel agent has just confirmed my dollar car hire doesn't include breakdown... not sure if that is standard or not but what do you all do about breakdown cover?

I would say if the car breaks down its the rental companys problem, I would call and get another car bought out.

Usually what it doesn't include is Roadside Assistance Plus, breakdowns as Paul says is the rental car company's problem, should the car present a mechanical/electrical failure they have to resolve not you.

RAP means they will assist you changing tires, bringing spare keys to you or even petrol.

That’s the extra insurance they try to get you to buy at the desk or sneakily add on. I’d say more than 90% of us never bother with it.

We always worried about being stranded if a breakdown happened given our disabilities. We were recommended this organisation which costs a fraction of doing it thru the car hire companies.

Have never had to use it ourselves but the reviews seemed to be good.

Don't worry you'll be fine if you take the advice that Mr. T and Mick give throughout this forum about insurance, always verify you have CDW/LDW and SLI at $1million.

Those are usually added automatically when you book from the UK and even European countries. Nevertheless always double check it and read the T&C's

You rental company will come out to you if their car breaks down. In your case you would only use the enhanced to change a tyre or run out of fuel or lost keys. Otherwise the rental company cover it. With your circumstances I do think you are correct in you need it .
