Great service from Avis @ HRH

We arrived yesterday into Melbourne and hired a car for 1 day rental, dropping off today at HRH. We booked a Group W, and got given a Group V 8 seater mini van.

I thought I’d asked to pre pay for fuel, thinking we’d use a bit driving from Melbourne and what we’ve done today, but still have 3/4 of a tank left. Went down to the Avis desk to see if he wanted me to nip it around to the garage to top it up, and he said no, it’s fine, I won’t charge you anything.

We’ve got another rental next week from HRH back to Melbourne, so hopefully have a similar experience, although I will fill it up before dropping off.

The price with BA wasn’t bad, £80 for each rental for a Group W.

There’s two things I’d be looking at here. Firstly, did you prepay for fuel in which case you’ve them 3/4 of a tank. Nothing you can do about that but maybe something to think about for next time.
Secondly, if you didn’t prepay for fuel you will owe them for a 1/4 of a tank. I know they said you won’t be charged but that is very unusual. Rental car companies typically charge 9 or 10 dollars a gallon when they have to put fuel in so they are missing out on around 30 dollars, maybe more. If the person check8n* the car on return notes that it is short on fuel I would expect you to be charged. I would keep a very close eye on your credit card to see if they do actually charge.
