Footwear for Yosemite

Will be visiting Yosemite next year for 3 nights, planning on doing some of the trails and wondering what footwear we should take, do people take proper walking shoes/boots or are good trainers enough, don’t want to take shoes that aren’t really needed and take up precious packing space😃

Combo, lots of people were in hiking shoes or trail shoes but we went all the way up to the base of Half Dome in normal trainers. No issues but make sure they are good runners with some support and a good sole and not converse or Stan Smiths etc
You'll also see about half will have hiking poles. We didn't and we were fine but on the way back down if you don't have poles you need a sole with a good grip!

Great thanks for that, don’t really want to take hiking shoes for us all just for a few days if they aren’t absolutely necessary👍

We were the same. We have all the gear but didn't want to lug it around over there and take up space.

Just to agree that decent trainers are good enough for Yosemite (the trails we did, anyway).

Yes did lots of walking in trainers , walked up the vernal falls and back down the John muir trail. Take the advice and take plenty of water when going up these walks . At this altitude you dehydrate quite quickly

I was there last week and had some old trail trainers, I found these really good. Others in my party had normal trainers, these were ok but not as grippy as mine. We saw people climbing rocks in flip flops and various other pieces of footwear, I was pleased with what I chosen to use.
