Can paper Euros still be used in the Netherlands?

Are there countries where cash is no longer used, and the whole population across all demographics has a smart phone, bank account or credit card?

I was more meaning, that with them also having the new polymer notes like we do, can the paper ones still be used?

Some are as close as you can get probably. Less than 5% cash transactions in many N European countries. Anyway, OP can use cash/paper money but if they haven’t got it yet they will have no problem travelling with only cards.

Thanks. My dad discovered he had paper Euros from a previous trip (they’ve not been away in Europe since 2016] and gave them to us for our football trip. I just had a slight panic that i’d need to swap them for the polymer notes.

The Europa series of notes are certainly still valid. If you have any concerns you should be able to change old notes for new ones at any EU bank.

I didn’t realise there were now also polymer Euros. I got a lot of Euros in 2019 and then holiday cancelled due to Thomas Cook collapse. Used them all last month in Tenerife and no issues at all

We’ve just returned from Athens and used paper notes with no problem as I’d changed them for our 2020 trip. I hadn’t realised Europe had changed to polymer ones. I’ve got some left which I will use in DLP next month too (as long as they allow them)

Edited to add that our change was given in paper notes too
