NYC - birthday
Hiya guys
Two questions really. We go NYC for 5 days this Oct, & my daughter will be turning 16 one second day. 1) is NYC good for coupons (food) and if so I'll start signing up 2) where would you recommend for a nice sit down restaurant meal? Happy to pay a few hundred dollars for 4 of us but we don't eat super fancy la Dee da fine Dining stuff. Thanks

Another vote for Ellen’s! Specially if your daughter likes musicals/shows it’s great fun! I’m Going again in September but try not go at a busy time as it’s always queued out the door!

We enjoyed Ellen’s - the entertainment is great but personally I wouldn’t choose it for a special birthday meal. IMO the food is more diner than nice restaurant standard and you can’t pre-book a table so nearly always have to queue to get in.
For a special meal we enjoyed the Boathouse in Central Park. We ate here following DS’s wedding. The food and atmosphere were lovely and the views over the lake and the park amazing.

The view at the top of the Marriott marquis on times square, is a revoling restaurant with spectacular views across manhatten. it has a set menu which is pretty decent and not as expensive as you think. they also do brunch on some days as well.
we went for our Christmas dinner in 2014 , amazing!

Ellen's is good for entertainment but the food is no more than average really. It's not bad, but it's not amazing. For a young girl it's probably quite a good choice.
Some of our favourites: For (fairly pricey) steak - Lincoln Square Steak. For slightly cheaper but still quite pricey, Landmarc in the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle.

Afternoon tea at the Plaza was really nice, not cheap though at $79 per head.
