other people and the stupid comments they make are one of the things you have to get used to and with time that does get easier The one that gets me the most is the "Oh but he doesn't look autistic"
Your ds is still young and so to outsiders it may look like he's just being naughty but as they gets older people do tend to be a little more understanding when you say they are autistic.

Planning is your biggest aid even if they can not really understand what is going on knowing what things are likely to set them off and having a plan in place to deal with it will make life easier for everyone. At his age while preparing him for what you can will help but its more about preparing yourselves and knowing that whatever happens you can deal with it.

go through the airport step by step - this is where the guide comes in useful and see what steps might cause an issue and then come up with a plan of action to either minimise the chances of a meltdown or how you will deal with it if it happens.
If he struggles with waits- use distraction offer a toy/snack
if noise is an issue you could try ear defenders or work out where the quietest areas are that you could go to are. We used the vroom its quieter than the main departure hall and there is a small soft play space that they can let off some steam before boarding.

I agree the Social Stories are brilliant, I made one when I took her son on holiday, it described every step of the journey, he sat with it on his lap and followed it.
We were going to book a really short haul flight in June but have decided not to as we're worrying too much. We are now off to Centre Parcs Longleat for a week instead.
Thanks for the tips on the cards and social stories

This is the thing, because he has good eye contact, likes cuddles and doesn't seem to be effected by noise, lights, crowds etc everyone thinks he's fine and tell me not to worry.
Surely childminders, nurseries and other professionals can't be wrong?!
I think it's all so fresh at the moment that we don't know what to do or believe.

Thank you so much for the advice. Its been really nice talking to someone
