Disney with a crutch and using opioid painkillers
Hi everyone
I have a chronic pain condition that has got a lot worse since our last Disney World trip. Standing is the particular killer and as such on bad days I use a crutch to help support my back. I was wondering though, what happens on the rides? Do they take the crutch off you and then give it back at the end of the ride, and if so how does this work on rides where loading and unloading are in different places? My other question is that due to my pain I am sometimes prescribed painkillers containing opioids- but with the current crack down on opioids in the USA are you even allowed to take them in to the country? Any advice gratefully received. |

I've always just handed my crutches over to the CM, and got them back at the end of the ride.
Genuine question - if the chronic pain in your back is so bad, why risk aggravating it on rides? /Chris |

The cast members will take your crutch to the ride exit for you.

Take copy of prescription with you. Tbh they won’t be bothered by it we had more problems taking DD meds through as it was liquid.
As for rides as others have said crutches or walking aids are taken off you and given back at ride exit. As a side have you informed travel insurance? Most rides have warnings on entrance and I think mostly warn against heart and back problems as standard.

Thank for the responses everyone. Travel insurance are all informed so no worries there. I did Disney Paris last year (not with the crutch as I didn't need it but I might do in WDW if i have a flare up) so I know what sort of rides cause problems and what don't, and will avoid the worst offenders accordingly! I tend to be more cautious than anything but likewise I don't want to miss out on great rides when I know they won't be a problem.
Although by far the most painful thing was standing waiting for the fireworks so will be planning round that too... |

Ive always had the cm take my crutches off me and give them back to me after the ride, take a copy of your prescription with you and keep meds in their original packaging. I've got spinal issues and found all of the rides ok apart from Space Mountain, the only ride that really affected me

As everyone else has said the CM usually takes the crutches from you as you get on the ride and returns them to you as you exit the ride afterwards.
