Magicbands - Necessary or Not
Hi
We are staying in a villa for first week and in a partner hotel at Disney Springs second week. We are purchasing the 14 day ultimate, will we need magicbands? Thanks |

We had a one night stay over Easter - checked towards the end of our first full day, so had the first day in the park using tickets, with the rest of the stay with Magic Bands.
Having a MB on your wrist is so much more easier then fumbling around in your bag/wallet to find your tickets (especially if you keep hold of the kids) for the FP rides or Photo Pass. You can make do without a MB, but for ease and what around $15 if you are not staying on site, it's certainly worth it.

I'll second this as you don't need one, but it can makes things much easier.

Also worth noting that some ride photos will not be available if you just use a standard ticket.
Rides like 7dmt & sdd both automatically link your ride photos using the proximity sensors.

Last time we went I didn't have one, but DW did.
All that happened was she used her band when getting photopass photographs (as the accounts were linked) but I had to get my ticket out of my pocket to tap in to FP+s It was a bit annoying getting my ticket out every time, so this time I'm probably going to get a band too

Magic Bands are not necessary, no. You don't need them. The plastic tickets you get do most of the same things.
However: 1. MagicBands make things a little more convenient. You don't have to get the plastic tickets out. Just hold your wrist up to the scanners. 2. A few of the ride photos and ride videos won't link to your account without a MagicBand. See Zellotape's post above. The basic MagicBands are only $15 each so it might be worth getting them for the added convenience and a couple of extra ride photos. Plus they make a nice souvenir. If you don't get them then the plastic tickets can still be scanned to enter the parks, scanned to enter the fastpass queues, and used to link the vast majority of photos to your account.

Thanks for all you replies.
Sounds like it's best especially with kids. Do we just buy them at our first park and link them? Thanks |

Yes.
You can also get them from the Disney store at the airport (as mentioned above), from Disney Springs, and sometimes from the Disney outlets in the malls at either end of International Drive.
