Virgin reportedly mulling return to Gatwick

According to The Times, they are thinking of going back next year. Reportedly buoyed by the demand for transatlantic travel.
Would be great for Gatwick I imagine, with this and the BA short haul airline, after Gatwick seemed to be in a death spiral.

Considering they sold off the Clubhouse and cut all of the LGW based staff, I'd be surprised. But as a Gatwick local, I hope it's true.

I am on the fence with this, We often fly into and out of different airports which did previously mean we would go out of Gatwick and then come back into Heathrow or visa versa which was a pain, so at the moment happy they are at just one London airport- it wouldn't be the end of the world and acknowledge the knock on effect for Gatwick, but I do prefer the one airport.

They might be regurgitating a bit of this story from a week or so ago that I read - bloomberg/news/artic...u-k-slot-rules
Virgin Atlantic “will probably move a bit into Gatwick” once its Heathrow capacity has reached 2019 levels, most likely after April next year, CEO Shai Weiss said.

Much prefer Gatwick to Heathrow so would be a thumbs up from me. Having said that as long as we get to Orlando I don’t really care too much.

If Virgin are talking about taking "bits" back to Gatwick, then you would assume it's the bucket-and-spade routes that previously departed from there, leaving the more business-focused routes to operate from Heathrow where they benefit from the wide range of connections on offer.

We prefer Gatwick and normally fly with VA. Hence we would 'probably' follow them.

However that M25 is a nightmare and adds on at least an hour to our trip hence Heathrow suits us better.

Time will tell but we as Customers hold all the Aces.

Yep thats my reading of it - they want to appease those who helped them out (there was a quid pro quo deal struck) and without a Clubhouse now VS won't want their business heavy paying J PAX (and Uniq/Pams) using Gatwick (especially with its now lack of feeder traffic that LHR gets)

I do hope so even tho Heathrow is nearer we know what we are doing at Gatwick. Not really worth us staying at Heathrow, especially as no obvious places but the M25 is still a consideration. Decisions decisions!
