I'm on the second episode. Feels like a complete rip off from Tolkien

Well watched all 3 now and think... am still underwhelmed and could easily stop watching future ones without much persuasion.

My partner has read all the books and has loved the 3 episodes so far.
Fantasy is not really my thing but I thought it was ok.

We watched the first episode last night and thought it was alright. I expected everyone to be saying it was great but seems like we are all a bit underwhelmed.

We watched two episodes last night. The problem for me is the changes they have made to the books but I'm going to try and ignore that. DH reminded me that the Robert Jordan struggled to get the first book published and supposedly was required to make many changes to make it more like Lord of the Rings... once it had been published and was a success he was able to stick to his guns and the rest of the books go more in the direction he wanted, yes still fantasy but not a carbon copy of LOTR.
We're going to persevere and I'm hopeful it will settle into itself.

Well... Started the books as a uni student in the '90s, finished in my late thirties.
Soooo wanting to like this, and there are good elements to it, but... Why, oh why, the change to Perrin from the outset? Without spoilers (well, can't see how there could be now... his whole character will be changed), there was an innocence and naivety to Perrin that set his entire arc, his character development, his future relationships... They basically cannot progress him the same way as the books with the start he's been given with a completely unnecessary change and tat plot device. Edited at 11:08 PM. |

Agreed IndianaMac, Perrin is a great character, why? Totally unnecessary to my mind.
