Good Beaches- Gulf Coast area

Does any-one have any good ideas for a good beach to visit, as we won't to go to the Gulf coast area, as this is surpose to be the best weather, and warmer sea tempreture.

Ana Maria Island near Sarasota - absolutely stunnning beaches.

It depends how long your trip to the beach will be

if it is just a day trip, then probably Clearwater as it will only take about 90 minutes to get there. There is plenty to do there as well as a beautiful long white sandy beach.

If you have longer and intend to stopover for a couple of nights then you can go a little further afield.

St Pete's always comes highly recommended, as does Susie's suggestion of Anna Maria Island or Sarasota (agreed, they are stunning). Or you could head to Siesta Key which is Mike Jones' favourite haunt...a search of this site for any of these beaches will produce lots of information and even some pictures.

Feel free to ask more specific questions about a particular beach that takes your fancy.

We are looking at one day visit, I've been looking at all the web site for the best beaches, and found that Fort De Soto Park's North Beach has got a good write up about it.

Anybody been there?

We went to Fort De Soto in July and it looks very nice and has a sign saying 'America's number one beach 2004' it is very tranquil there with alot of facilities such as restrooms, BBQ's, seating areas and a cafe.

When we went to Fort De Soto we came across plenty of snakes

There was also no swimming signs displayed due to strong currents

There are loads of lovely beaches from Clearwater down to Naples including Siesta Key, Sanibel, Captive and Ana Maria - too many to mention really...
