Mobile What do you do without so you can save for Florida?

After the most amazing 'once in a lifetime' trip we are all consumed with saving to go again. Hopefully we'll be back in 2019 looking at the figures but in the meantime interested to know -

what you give up/ sacrifice or economise on to save for holidays ?

Carpets and curtains

We have sacrificed the above. We built our own house but there is still bits and bobs to finish off including all carpets and curtains, we asked our daughters do they want them or a Florida holiday this year and they said they've already lived over 3 years without them, another year won't matter either way

Nothing that I can think of .
Although I suppose you could say we have sacrificed a new kitchen but we are just getting it done later this year instead . We will be having a cheaper holiday next year but I think it's needed after a few full on holidays the last few years!

I rarely buy clothes in UK, I save my money to go shopping over there. We don't have a lavish lifestyle and as a couple we only go out occasionally, we do have a fair size extended family so it always seems there is something to celebrate and socialising does cost a fair bit. Most of our money goes on our lovely GD's but we are lucky as we no longer have a mortgage and no loans etc so although we are both retired our normal outgoing are as low as we can get them.

We are saving hard for this trip. If we left it any later we'd need to go in the holidays as DS starts high school next september. So were are going without any caravanning holidays, we don't drink often, or have takeaways, neither of us smoke.

We try to explain to the kids that there are certain things we cant do right now while were saving. We still go out often just spend a lot less money, if any at all.

I'm also putting things off i.e. decorating etc but we'll just sort it after the holiday is done

We don't smoke and don't go out much now either! But because we both work hard and bring home a decent income we don't cut back on much.

Two years ago we considered moving home, we currently live in an ex local authority semi and our mortgage is under £300 per month, we realised if we did move we probably wouldn't be able to have the lifestyle that we do now. So I do without my big fancy kitchen that I have always dreamed of

To be honest, we're fortunate that we don't need to. We don't have children yet though so things will change!

I wouldn't give up anything for a holiday. Life is for living, not just for holidays.
