Disabled Accessible Accommodation DLP
Hoping some lovely Dibbers can help us please.
We are looking at doing a trip to DLP have only been to WDW previously. Both DH and I use mobility scooters and need spacious accessible accommodation that must have a large walk in shower. We usually prefer self catering, but would consider a hotel as it would only be a short break. Can anyone recommend anywhere please? Also any advice on accessing the parks, tickets etc. We can only usually manage short days and don't do rollercoasters. How many days would you recommend we plan for we were thinking 4 - 5 days? We are planning to drive our adapted MPV from the UK would you advise The Shuttle or ferry? Thank you |

Myself and my eldest son (23) had a last minute short break to DLP in October, he is a wheelchair user and a spacious room and wet room were important. We booked direct with Disney and the man we spoke to was extremely helpful. We stayed at the Cheyenne and I would definitely recommend it, at checkin we found we had been allocated two rooms with a connecting door. DS’s room was very accessible and the bathroom was fantastic. We were in the accommodation closest to the main building but to be honest we would have been happy in any of them. We didn’t use the shuttle buses as we preferred to walk/wheel to the parks, it took about 10 - 15 mins. It was a very pleasant walk alongside the river passing some of the other hotels on the way.
We provided evidence of my sons disability before we went (PIP letter and Blue Badge) and we were given a free carers ticket. Also at checkin we showed his blue badge and we were given a pass for the duration of our stay that enabled him to access the rides through the exits etc. The designated viewing area for Happily Ever After was amazing, far better than Disneyworlds in our opinion. I would say 3-4 days would be long enough, take advantage of the EMH when the parks are very quiet. Midweek is also a lot quieter than weekends and also worth checking when French holidays are and possibly avoid. We have also stayed at the Disneyland Hotel but we didn’t have an accessible room there so can’t advise what they’re like. We loved staying there because of its location but it was very expensive. Ive stayed in sequoia lodge in an accessible room on a family trip. The accessible room was very close to the lobby so easy access. The room itself was great. It was one room with a single bed and a bunk bed with the accessible bathroom which was huge. It had bars on the toilet and a roll in shower that had a seat provided. As we had three adults we also had the adjoining room as well for no extra cost that had I think a double bed. The only issue was the person who needed the accessible bathroom was sleeping in the double bed so had to go into the other room to use the bathroom but it really wasn’t a big issue. Having the two adjoined room was great as there was so much space. There are lifts less than a minute from the room to the ground floor for the restaurants if you are having breakfast there and also the exit to the park which is a ten minute walk at maximum.
The facilities were great but the rooms and bathrooms were a little tired looking and in need of a refresh. Newport bay isn’t too much dearer than sequoia lodge but Cheyenne also looked great. Edited at 08:33 PM. |

Check out this website that has good images on what all the rooms and facilities actually look like as sometimes you don’t always get what is described. Hope this helps. I would also say 4 nights/ 5 days will be plenty of time to get everything done. It depends on how much down time you’re looking for or if you plan to visit the nearby mall, etc. |
