While I love WDW, it's not an option at the moment as DW is worried about flying, but I do plan on taking the two kids myself next year or the year after.
So this year, it's DLP for us, 8th trip and we keep going back and all the girls care about is that it's Disney, 2 adults 2 kids going over the Easter weekend for 5 days. This costing us just over £1400 to stay at Newport Bay, Admirals Floor. Lots of people keep telling us all that Orlando is cheaper, so can someone please point us all in the direction of this mythical travel agent that can offer Orlando cheaper than DLP. I know it's cheaper to stay off site in Orlando but you have to compare like for like. So what I'm looking for is 2 weeks in Orlando (must be in school holidays, prefarably Summeer or next Easter) staying onsite at Disney, any Disney Hotel will do, for 2 adults and 2 kids, for £1400/£1500, remember this must include park tickets. If anyone can find this for me I'd be quite happy to give them 10% commission if I book |

have just booked to go in oct half term 4 nights at cheyenne for £520 for me and my daughter holidays are always going to be expensive for us as im a single parent and have supplements to pay. I have booked and paid for character meals on each day of our stay so the majority of food is already paid for at £200. personally i dont think £720 for a 5 day break isnt bad.
we are having a summer holiday in the canaries for a week for not much more so this year 2 holidays for a lot less than we paid for one holiday in florida My daughter is 6 she doesnt care if disney is in paris florida or even southend all she wants to see is mickey and princesses! and if she is happy then im happy |

Yet still people claim that they can get to Florida cheaper than DLP. I dispute that this is the truth, given my own personal experiences. The travel agents offering Florida cheaper than DLP must be exclusive to a select few DIBBers!

Totally Agree.
You MUST compare like for like when working out prices. The Majority of people going to DLP stay ON-SITE, as this is the most convenient (and best IMO) option there. So price up staying ONSITE with Disney at WDW and I think you'd struggle, even if you were giving your commission and margin away. With the current "sub-optimal" £/€ rate DLP isnt cheap, but then no where in Europe is atm. This thread will forever be polarised in a Marmite fashion. It dies for weeks and then suddenly someone seems to spark it again. People are welcome to post their opinions of both sides of the argument, but I suggest that ultimately it will round back to the same answer - each to their own, lets agree to disagree. Nuff said

Ah, finally more people disagreeing with the "3 days in DLP is more expensive than 2 weeks in Orlando nonsense"!
We paid as follows: 3 nights at Cheyenne incl. park tickets - £400 ish (40% off deal). Eurostar - £150ish (for the car). Plus then fuel and tolls. Say another £100. Total of £650 for 4 days, 2 adults 2 kids. A 2-week park ticket in Florida costs about £800 for 2 adults 2 kids alone! Plus flights, which are something like £3000 direct in school holidays, maybe down to £1500 if you fly indirect or to another airport and are very lucky. And that's before we've even got to accommodation! As everyone else has said - if you can show me where to buy a 2-week Orlando holiday for the price of a few nights in DLP please tell me!

Have to say have never been to DLP, and I would like to try it. But I'll be honest and say it's highly unlikely we ever will.
Main reason being - cost. I've priced it up and the cost of a long weekend for us travelling from Scotland going to DLP is ridiculous! I see the price and think - jeez, for another couple of hundred we could get to Florida for a fortnight! And for that extra couple of hundred we get 6 Disney parks, US/IOS/SW, better weather... no contest. Not snobbery on my part, it's just better financially for us. And as for saying that you have to compare like for like - then of course you will find DLP cheaper than staying onsite in WDW - but the fact is, at WDW you do not need to stay onsite to have a great time or be near the parks. The set up at DLP isn't the same, they don't have the same off site infra structure. I priced up for 3 nights at Hotel Cheyanne for 2 ad 2 ch flying from Edinburgh and we got very little change from £1400! And I know I can definately get an Orlando holiday for that price! Di x

I've got to be honest, I don't think it's snobbery on anyones part - If you don't like DLP, then you don't like DLP fair enough! But I think people need to try it first!
I think the main trouble is everyone who dismiss DLP before going are comparing the two on the wrong basis. DLP is a short break, WDW is full blown holiday. I think comparing the on site hotels is the only fair way of doing it, because otherwise you are comparing the whole of Orlando to just DLP. Yes there are a lot more parks to go to in Orlando, but there is also alot more to do in the Paris area than just Disney WDW is bigger than DLP yes, but the park has been up and running since the early 70's which does give it a slight advantage! And naturally the weather is better year round in Orlando, but time Paris right and the weather can be great. conversley I have spent New Year in Orlando scraping the ice off the car window. As for people's behaviour, the Europeans are not all rude, it's just a completely different culture to the English and I wouldn't expect an entire culture to change it's behaviour just because I've popped over the channel for a few days! The worst behaviour I've seen at DLP was from a British family in 2004. We got to see alot of them because they were in the next room. They hired a wheelchair for their holiday, and then got their 2 kids to take it in turns sitting in it just so they could skip to the front of the Q for everthing! The big thing that is still baffling me is the cost. As I asked before can someone please tell me where I can book for me, DW and DDs to Orlando for £1400! I've just picked Jetsave at random and for 7 nights in Orlando, staying offsite, during the school summer holidays and it's coming up a minimum of £3000, then I'll need to add park tickets, (I'm guessing at £1000.00 for the 4 of us for all parks). Please, please someone tell me where I can get two week holiday in Orlando in the school holidays for £1400, indeed if you can point me towards a website that can get it to under £2000 I'll be happy! In an ideal world I would pick WDW over DLP every time, but it's not an ideal world and if the only way of getting a regular Disney fix is DLP then that's what I'll do. DLP is a great short break the kids love and I love it and that's good enough for me! But if you've been and you don't like it then fair enough, live and let live, but please everyone, don't dismiss DLP on the basis of horror stories you may have heard as I'm sure we could all come up with plenty of horror stories relating to WDW if we spent a few minutes on the net! |

I can't believe this thread is still going. It is interesting to see how much emotion and debate it has cased.
