Not madness at all. Wedding invites normally go out fairly close to the wedding, but they are planned years in advance. MY brother is getting married next summer, I want that date asap so I can book my holiday and not clash. If he sent me a Save the Date card I'd be very pleased. it doesn't have to be elaborate, but it it very useful to know the date as soon as possible.

They are a good idea, not double booked a wedding as of yet but were on holiday for dh niece's baptisim and this year just found out her first communion is when we are away too... oopps!
But does mean you can't use any old excuse if you don't want to attend lol

I think they are a good idea - my daugter missed being a bridesmaid for my cousin because they hadn't told everyone the date when they knew.We wouldn't have booked holiday if we'd known sooner.
As others have said even when its a wedding in this country it gives you longer to budget !
