We've BOOKED!

Hurrah! Yesterday, Neil and I booked our wedding at the Fleece!

We had a meeting with the wedding planner this time last week and we loved her and the venue even more, so we booked! (How do I change the title of the thread, as the date is now wrong haha?!)

The wedding can, now, in theory, go on the backburner for a bit while we look for a house! However, naturally, I'm still planning like a good 'un

I have now secured three of my bridesmaids:

1) My sister, Katie (MOH)
2) My Goddaughter, Megan
3) My best friend, Olly

Neil has also selected his Best Man, Olly's boyfriend, Ben. I'm thrilled he's chosen Ben. He's known us both for years and he's a lovely guy who I know will do a good job. There's a lot of material on Neil for the BM's speech, let's put it that way!

Now, I just have 1 more girl who I'm definitely going to ask, and then I'll hang fire! We can afford the wedding at the moment, but I don't want to go over budget with bridesmaids, just in case!

I wanted to ask some questions to you all about etiquette as I have a few dilemmas with guests. I know it's early to be fretting, but I do like to plan ahead!

We've got a core guest list of 81. These are people that we see all the time that we definitely want to invite. The problem is, because of where we live, these are mostly my family and I feel bad We also have a lot of mutual friends who make up about 30 of these people The thing is, by their own admission, Neil's family isn't as close, or as big as mine.

Neil's Mum, Sue, has five cousins down South, who I have never met (and Neil and I have been together over five years) By Sue's own admission, these cousins are very slack (they organise family get togethers and then don't show up?! ?!) Neil's Dad, Dave, has one sister, who is not very well, she has motor neurones. She is a lovely woman and I've met her a few times. She needs someone with her to look after her as she is not very mobile. Sue says that she would like to invite some close family friends. These are a party of four who Neil and I know very well and love to pieces so this isn't a problem. But then she keeps bringing up these cousins as well! She said, 'Oh, I'll have to mention it to them, but I doubt they'll show!' Not exactly ideal when you're trying to pin down numbers. Plus, I'm loathe to invite them anyway as I've never met them! Neil agrees with me.

We also have my Dad's family. My Dad isn't particularly close to his family. He has two brothers and a sister. He visits them on birthdays but doesn't socialise with them on a regular basis. I haven't seen some of these for 5-10 years. Neil hasn't met any of them. I feel like I should apply the same standard to them as I do to Neil's extra family. But then I feel bad for my Dad. (He does have some family friends going though, including his business partner and best friend)

My question is, am I expected to invite all these extra family? This would bring our guest list up to about 100 which is a lot of extra mouths to feed!

I've had a look online at the etiquette for this sort of thing. The general answers I've found have been that if the parents are paying, they can choose, but if we are paying, we can choose.

Enjoying reading your plans. We are getting married in aug 2016... Couldn't afford the disney package for our 38 guests but we are getting wed at cypress grove park, holiday at the same time and hoping to do a Bahamas cruise for mini moon. :-) we then plan to have a uk reception if funds allow. Like you, we are also saving to buy a house. Will be following your thread for sure. Happy planning. X

Update again:

Since returning from Florida, Neil and I have had a further think. We don't want to go in July anymore. Horrific weather. So we're thinking about returning in May 2017 for our honeymoon

However, some of our friends have expressed interest in coming with us... mainly because 2017 is the year we all turn 30! So we may be planning a 30th celebration trip tying in with our honeymoon.

Funds allowing, we would like to do a little something in terms of a VR but I think the main thing that I really want is the pictures of me in Disney in my wedding dress so reckon we'll just try and book a photoshoot with Randy Chapman instead to save on £! AND stay at SSR and go Deluxe Dining!

Also fancy staying at RPR for a couple of nights! Exciting times!

With it being University holidays and me doing a job application a day, I seem to have a lot of time on my hands so I've been rather ill-advisedly looking at wedding dresses. I have a few... okay one favourite already which they stock at an outlet in Leeds. I've nearly rung up so many times to make an appointment but I really can't let myself until next year. It's just silly

This is the favourite at the minute.

Rosabel by Maggie Sottero

It's really dreamy and romantic, and I love the champagne colour as it totally blends with my gold and cream theme. It's really quite pricey at the moment at £1300 so I'm hoping it comes down in price. Either that or I'll be scouting Preloved and/or selling Neil/my kidney.

I love this one as well. Very similar but a different designer. This is 1467 by Demetrios.

The idea of getting married in gold/champagne has always appealed to me. Mostly because I've been told I suit the colour with my hair being the colour it is

And only partially because of Belle

I also absolutely adore:

This is 2688 By Mori Lee. Comes in Light Gold

I love Hannah by Maggie Sottero but she is well out of budget at £1575!

I know it's really naughty but I have an appointment with a venue dresser this weekend. She's the fiance of a guy I used to work with. I haven't committed anything yet obviously but she is really reasonably priced. For what some people price at like £600, she is like £250. Yeah, amazing or what?

I'm still fancying really a really romantic set up. Something like this for the centrepieces:

Loads of tea lights and rose petals to make it look all pretty

Yes, yes, Tracey. House first, then wedding.

We are still having traumas with numbers. Our guest list keeps increasing... Don't they always?

This was one of the reasons I wanted a Disney wedding... so we could keep numbers down and have everyone we really wanted there. I'm currently airing on the side of no children because numbers just escalate so much when you say guests can bring their kids.

But my Mum was worried that some of our family friends would be offended... namely my oldest friend, Sophie. I did consider having her as a bridesmaid way a couple of years ago (told you I'd been planning even before Neil and I got engaged) but we're just not that close anymore at all. We have nothing in common anymore and just don't seem to work as a close friendship anymore. We haven't had a fall out or anything, but she's got two kids and is happily married with a house and husband. I have no money, no kids and no house and have only just got engaged. I was also considering having her two girls as flower girls but then if they're there, what about other people's kids. Sophie's sister is a close friend to my sister, and she has two kids as well. Would it be wrong to invite Sophie's two kids and not Jessica's as well?

Ah there's just too much politics. I need to stop stressing and hold off making a decision until I absolutely have to.

But at the end of the day, it's my wedding, right? Loads of weddings I've been to of late have been no kids and they've been better for it!

Anyway, that's my latest update. Sorry for the rant

A FEW UPDATES AND CHANGES...

We had a rather substantial issue with our venue a couple of weeks ago, which has now, thankfully, been resolved. There have been some good compromises on both sides but we are now able to get a choice of main course for our guests at the wedding. I have also managed to negotiate a free champagne upgrade for our toast drink for the inconvenience caused by this whole affair so we've done all right

Our date is two years today and while it's still a way away - I'm doing all my research now so that when we've bought a house and moved in the new year, all my research is done, and things are ready to be booked.

I'VE CHANGED MY COLOUR SCHEME FROM ICE BLUE TO NAVY BLUE

NEW INSPIRATION FOR BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES...

I hope they keep these in for this time next year when we'll be buying!

I've decided on my four bridesmaids. The original four that I wanted and I'm not budging. I don't want to run myself in circles with 'etiquette' anymore. If they don't like it, tough

I'VE PICKED MY CAKE...

I've been in love with this cake for a long time. I wasn't so sure about having a big wedding cake but then me and one of my BMs went to a wedding fayre a month or so ago and met the man of our dreams - my cake man! We were really bowled over by his ideas and what he could do and he is really flexible in terms of budgets. We are having a two-tier version of this cake and he is making the rose for the top out of sugar so we can keep it for years to come

I'VE PICKED MY PHOTOGRAPHER...

I've been running myself in circles looking at photographers. One guy who I loved (he'd done a friend of a friend's wedding last December) was already booked up for our date! Disaster! Determined not to lose another photographer, I'm going to book my new choice next week! She's been great and has agreed to hold our date for a £50 deposit and says we can pay the rest in the new year. Our photographer is going to be Happily Ever Captured. She's based in Halifax.

I'VE PICKED MY MAKE UP LADY

Wedding fayres are great! You get some RIGHT discounts that quite frankly, I think are too good not to take advantage of! At the wedding fayre I attended with my BM a couple of months ago, we were introduced to a lady named Lisa Addley. She is a preferred vendor at a local EXPENSIVE wedding venue so I figured she must be pretty decent. She has been lovely. For a £30 deposit, she will fix her prices and give us a 15% discount off those prices. She's very reasonable anyway as well! Wonderful! Me and my girls are going to look FAB!

No other decisions have been made yet. Although I was getting very excited looking at my timeline the other day. It's all so exciting!

Had a slight trauma this week, makes me curse myself for planning so early! Another one of my friends is getting married next October. We are very similar in our tastes which is always a dangerous thing when it comes to a wedding!

I've had my eye on these bridesmaids dresses since May:

I've been monitoring the sales and voucher codes for Coast websites (love me a bargain! ) so I'd be ready to buy dresses for the best possible price when the time came.

At first, I was looking to get them in an ice blue colour, but recently switched to navy blue after getting inspired by a Pinterest board colour scheme of cream, gold and navy. It looked so beautiful and elegant so I switched.

Last week, my friend sent a message round to us girls (we are all bridesmaids!) saying that she'd just found these amazing dresses. What did we think?

Yup, you've guessed it, exactly the same dresses. Me being me, I gave her the most recent voucher code for 30% off, told her that we were too similar with a giggle and that obviously the dresses were hers as she was getting married first. She rang me, absolutely traumatised but hey, these things happen!

Hope I find some more dresses that I love just as much. I like the full length version of these dresses which is still a possibility... we'll have to see when the time comes to look at dresses next year.

I have done a mock up of our 'save the date' cards on Zazzle:

I'm gonna send these out next November... yeah I know. I'm far too organised. I just loved the fact that they exactly match our colour scheme and theming. We're gonna have sparklers (hopefully! )

Every time I go by Hobbycraft, I get a few bits and pieces for the invitations and place cards. I'm trying to get little bits here and there, so then it's all done, spreading the cost! I don't know what our guest list is going to end up like, to be honest. Neil's Mum is convinced that half their family won't come even if they say they will because apparently that's just what happens

Neil has picked his ushers! I've been trying to get him to do this for ages so I'm glad he's finally decided.

Our next job is to pay the rest of the deposit for the Photographer in January (£150) and to take out wedding insurance. Oh and a small thing called the WEDDING DRESS DIET It will all be worth it in the end!

No other updates to share, other than the fact that our best friends may be coming on the Disney bit of our honeymoon with us, if we can tie it on to half term holiday in May. Fingers crossed! We are having a couple of days in Miami and at RPR so don't worry, we will be having some alone time, and quite frankly, Neil and I are dying to share amazing Disney with these two friends, especially the fab restaurants and the like!

Still very much up for doing the Randy Chapman wedding photo shoot as opposed to an actual Disney wedding - so much cheaper and I get the photos I want! ie. Grand Floridian beach with the Castle in the background

Over and out!

Ahh what a shame about the bridesmaid dresses?! So nice of you to let your friend have them 😊 I'm sure you will find even nicer dresses for your wedding though!
