Need Visa (ETA)

Many people are arriving at the airports bound for Orlando via Toronto not realizing they need a Canadian Visa (even though only changing planes). Our daughter and family have done just this today and were refused to fly, Air Canada staff gave them the web address of the Canadian Embassy to apply for ETA, unfortunately they gave them an agency website (not official site), this charged them $50 each and they did not receive ETA in time to board (I applied to the official site and took 7 minutes to receive and cost $7).

Edreams refuses to do anything, even though I asked why they didn't let my daughter know this was a new requirement (didn't require visa to transit last year). Air Canada sent an email last night at 10pm informing them they needed an ETA (didn't see this email), Air Canada would not put them on another flight. It has cost them another £2,500 for new flights. They were not the only family refused to fly today, there were many.

Sadly Andy whilst eTA has been common knowledge on this forum for over a year it may not be the case in other areas, including TAs. The eTA site went live in August 2015 and eTA became compulsory from March 2016. Initially it began as non compulsory to ease travellers into the compulsory stage. Didn't AC ask for eTA numbers during API completion, or at OLCI?

I'm sorry for the additional costs, interesting to know that AC will, as per their T&Cs no doubt, charge for a new flight, they possible view as a pax failing to research travel to/via Canada. It's a helpful heads up you've given for others.
