DVC membership - including in a will

Hi all,

Slightly odd question but I'm finally getting round to sorting out my will - and I've read somewhere that it can be difficult to include assets like DVC membership in a UK will.

Does anyone here have any experience of this? I've got a DVC membership and a Sun Trust bank account - do I need a separate will in the US or can I include this in my UK will?

Thanks very much

Jev

We had to make a separate Florida will for the villa and accounts held here in Florida and have it referenced in our Scottish will

When we made our will our solicitor said that we didn't need to make any separate provision for it as it would just be included as part of our estate. Having said that is was a very simple will, so it would be best to speak to your own solicitor.

We have mirror wills but my Wife has very expensive jewellry and a gold Rolex watch. To that end the wills state that all jewellry goes to my Daughter and the DVC Contracts to my Son.

Doesn't directly answer your question but in many ways when you get much older, I'd get the deed transferred $500 so they have it and have you as associate members so you can book, then it stays out of the estate.

This is something which has cropped up for us, as well. I've finally got round to sorting out a will but my solicitor doesn't know how leaving foreign property works. The annoying thing is that we should have had DD made a joint owner at the time we bought into it 2 years ago as it'll cost money to have her added after the fact.

We're going to make enquiries when we go over in September.

That said, we're not expecting anything to happen for a long while, as OH is just hitting 60 and I'm 56. But, you never know when your time will be up (my OH went through Westminster by bus literally 3 minutes before that event last week).

If I were you i'd try to avoid.. Better to put your beneficiaries on the deed if you can trust them not to start using the points until you want them to, and keeping it outside the estate.
