DLP Shareholders' Club the what and hows.

Many Dibbers are interested in buying shares in Disneyland Paris and joining the Shareholders’ Club. So the DLP boards’ team thought it would be a good idea to have a sticky on how to do this, and they foolishly asked me to write it. The following is mainly about how we did it - of course, some may have approached it differently.
But first:

The benefits of joining the Shareholders’ Club:
Discount on rooms in the onsite hotels- although the general offers are often better.
Discount on part tickets- although if you book a stay at DLP through their own site, park tickets are included.
Discount at the Disney-owned restaurants and shops at DLP (currently 15% in most places).
Discount at Disney Stores in the UK (currently 10%)
Offers on annual passes, golf, spa treatments, guided tours, Panoramagique flights, and La Vallee village.
There are also shareholder events but these will be over at DLP. Recently there was a special preview of Cars 2 in French in the
Cinemagic building.

Before you buy shares.
The first thing to do is, of course, make sure you have sufficient funds to buy shares! You can buy as many as you want, but to join the Shareholders’ Club without paying a bi-annual fee you need to own 100 shares
Secondly, think about why you want to get shares in DLP in particular. We got them because we love DLP and for the benefits of being a member of the Shareholder’s Club. We didn’t buy shares to make money! Just as well, as they have not performed that well as shares over the years. There was a spike in price recently but they have gone down since. We bought ours at about €8 a share, and as of close of business at the time of writing they are €5.31 a share.
Assuming you have the funds and you have thought through why you want to buy the shares, then the best place to start is where you are now - the DLP forum on the Dibb. Several Dibbers are members of the Shareholders’ Club so they can give you plenty of info and advice.
The next place to go is the Disneyland Paris Corporate website. Follow the link below.
corporate.disneylandparis...rs/index.xhtml
As you can see, the company is actually called Euro Disney SCA, so from now on I will use that name. Here you will find a lot of info about being a shareholder, what benefits there are, and the relevant forms etc. Please read this site thoroughly as it really is full of relevant info. They will be willing to answer any questions but I would ask here on the Dibb first, as there is a lot experience around here.
Continued..

Buying shares
So you have done all your research and are now ready to buy the actual shares. Firstly you have to decide who you purchase them through. After asking around we decided to follow many Dibbers and buy our shares through the Halifax. The share dealing site is
halifax/Sharedealing
The number to call if you would rather contact them over the phone is
08457 20 30 40
They don’t charge you to open a share dealing account with them but you do have to open it with at least £100.00. The process is not too difficult and they will give all the help you need. You will need to link your share dealing account with a feeder account so that you can transfer money when needed. We use our current account and transfer any payments from there. You may be asked to go into a branch with some ID, (I took my passport and a utility bill). The overall process takes a few days but don’t try and rush this part - it is important that you get it right. As usual when opening an account, they will send you a temporary pass word which you can change and you have to pick a share dealing name (this can be your real name or a username you invent). You will also be asked to answer several security questions, one of which will be picked at random each time you log in. It is worth telling the bank (or whoever you want to buy the shares through) that you want to use the benefits of being in the Shareholders’ Club. You can purchase your shares on line. The Halifax charges a fee for performing the transaction (about £11 at time of writing). Once the shares are in your account it is time to contact Euro Disney SCA.

After buying the shares.
Go to the Euro Disney SCA corporate web site and follow the instructions there. If you wish to join the Shareholders’ Club you will need 100 shares to avoid paying the bi-annual fee. Club membership is renewable every two 2 years. You will need to print the form, fill it out and post or fax it along with proof you are a shareholder to the address on the site. The bank you bought your shares from should be able to provide you with the proof. With the Halifax you can print the relevant document from the internet. It will take up to six weeks to get your shareholders’ card, though as they send them out in batches you may not have to wait that long. You will receive a welcome email once you become a member of the club. If you are going to DLP before your card arrives ring them and they will make sure you are able to claim your discounts while you are over there. Get in touch with them if you have any problems. Below is a link to the specific part the site for the club.
corporate.disneylandparis...ub/index.xhtml
There is a free call number for all shareholder questions. It is
+ 33 (0)1 64 74 56 30

I hope the information in this sticky has been helpful. Remember you can ask any questions, no matter how obvious, either here on the Dibb and by ringing or contacting Euro Disney SCA through the site.

Thanks for this Peter!

Just worth mentioning as well...

The Shareholders Club is open to all and everyone who has bought shares - whatever country or language.

The Shareholder team at DLP speak great English.

However...

You must remember that EuroDisney SCA is a French registered and trading company and so almost all of the Shareholder's Club promo material you will get via email and through the post is in French, so will need translation.
