Pre Existing Conditions - Travel Insurance
Can anyone advise on the following regarding Travel Insurance. I started looking around yesterday for insurance for OH and DGD. DGD has multiple medical conditions all relating to having had a brain tumour and treatment as a baby, 18 years ago. However in discussions with the insurance company the advisor stated that she only wanted information for the last two years, where unfortunately she has developed epilepsy and other conditions. Has anyone any experience like this. I feel that all information should be given. Secondly as OH has pre existing medical conditions is it best to get two separate insurances or a combined insurance for them both. I need to look around as the company yesterday gave me three quotes depending on the level of insurance, i.e. £818.59, £1292.86 and £1639.74 for both of them. I obviously want to get as competitive a price as possible.

We went with Columbus last year, did it online, but then phoned to tell them more information, amended quite a few details, each time they immediately emailed me new docs, i too was quite worried about cover as other quotes i had were in the thousands, this was "only" £500 odd. DD has malignant tumours in head and has had seizures too.

Have you tried Holiday Extra. My Mum was quoted £750 for two weeks insurance with Columbus, but someone on here said try Holiday Extras, we did and got it for £350, she doesn't really have any ailments just the usual but she is in her 80's and it covered both her and my sister who is diabetic.

I tried both Insure and Go and Boots today, both pretty competitive for my current PEMC's.

We used Puffin last year for DH Type 2 diabetes on insulin - about a third of the other quotes we had and will be using them again this year.
It's so frustrating as we get "free" travel insurance with Nationwide but as soon as you try to upgrade it to cover conditions, it goes through the roof Their adviser told me last year that we didn't really need to do the upgrade for diabetes, if it was controlled, but I didn't feel comfortable with that, hence finding Puffin on a comparison site. |

Hi
We have used Boots for the last two years previously it was Insurewith but this year it was only £197 for a worldwide annual policy covering 4 of us all with pre exsisting medical conditions, the most complex being my daughters she had a stroke in the womb resulting in mild cerebral palsy and then at aged 4 developed epilepsy and has had seizures recently, also adhd inc, they were extremely helpful, the staff member contacted their underwriters to double check as the stroke was before birth that everything was covered so I felt confident. Her additional cost was only £35.80, my husbands sinusitis and sciatica being covered was £28.64 .

Update
I phoned Boots and received a very good quote for our travel insurance needs, even added myself to this one. Boots Platinum Insurance came in at £470. However, the cheapest policy with Boots came in at £272. Easy to fill in online, however I missed out our address and had in the end to call the insurance line. Customer assistant extremely helpful, even checked if we could get annual insurance, which we could not as it would not cover our DGD. It definitely pays to ask the DIBB for advice. Thanks again everyone.

We phoned Staysure last year as it was on British Heart Foundations website for DGD age 10 who had heart condition + stroke 2 years prior. Also her 4yr old brother with pneumonia and scar tissue on lung. Both are still monitored by specialist hospitals but were able to arrange full family cover for 4 weeks Florida last summer £360 ish inc mum and dad. Very kind and understanding adviser.
