Potential 1st Purchase
We are on the verge of making our first DVC Purchase - resale at Saratoga Springs, shame I didn't do it when I considered it back in 2007.
Anyway one I've seen on offer has a use year of August with first batch of points available to use August 2018. We plan to visit every other year either last 2 weeks of Feb, last 2 weeks of August or last 2 weeks of October (all give or take a day or two) Would this use year work OK for us and also if the first points Aug 18, when could I firstly make my first booking and secondly use my points for. thanks Steven |

Hi
Use years only have any effect if you have to cancel your holiday. An August use year would be a perfect one for you as you would still have time to bank your points if you had to cancel your plans. You can bank your points anytime in the first 8 months of you use year so before the end of March in your case (as long as the points haven't been borrowed). You can book 11 months for the start date of your stay at your home resort. For an August 18 booking that would be September 17 i.e. If you wanted to stay 5th August you could book 5th September. You would be able to use you 2018 points and borrow 2019 for that stay. Use year makes no difference to when you can book, you just have have points available at the date you want to stay. HTH! Thanks for the quick reply - sounds ideal for us then,
I've followed the "fallen out of love with DVC" thread and understand why people are selling up - but for us I think if we needed a cooling off period we would either rent out with Dave's etc or to our family and friends at a good rate as long as we cover our yearly dues I'd be happy. We're in the process of brainwashing our kids so I'm sure they'll make good use of it when they are young adults and then onto parents themselves. |

You can get great deals on SSR. I bought mine Feb for 75 a point but with all 2016 points banked to 2017 (Feb use year). I rented the banked with Daves within a few hours, bringing my purchase price down to 64 a point. With Disney I think it is now 145 a point! The times you are going are similar to mine, we get a 1 bed. Certainly end of Feb and end of August we can book a 1 bed anywhere at 7 months . Even Grand Floridian was open. Bit more tricky for a studio but bang on 7 months you will be able to switch. SSR is probably getting a full revamp 2019 (unsubstantiated rumour but from 2 sources).
