As people have said definitely an evening thing, there's plenty of restaurants close by, I believe there's Logan's close by an Italian (name escapes me) checkers, McDonald's, ponderosa on the other side of the road I'm sure there's more

There's a Red Lobster right next door (well by US standards, walkable) and an Olive garden not too far away. There are several restaurants in Old Town, but not well known ones (Although I think there's an A&W)

The cruise is at about 8pm, but you can see most of the cars earlier and chat to the owners. They usually start to arrive late afternoon, early evening.

Live music, rock n roll, eclectic shops and the fun stop. Well worth an evening for something different to do.

Cruise starts at 8.30, it says on the link that cars start arriving at one but whenever we've been the majority don't start turning up till early evening.

This link has pictures to give you an idea of what's there

Saturday nights get very busy, don't expect to just drive up and get a parking spot at any time around 6:00pm. We were looking around for ages. Go early.
Also get a spot for the cruise along the side of the road early, they tell you what side of the road they will drive up, so get a space along that road

We went last year & would recommend it, we will go again on our next visit. I know you're getting a taxi but for anyone driving I would arrive early to park. We also thought the cars arrived earlier than they did so we went & had a look round the shops, brought a few things & went back later on.
