Planning Daytona Beach Day

Any tips appreciated... plan so far:

Breakfast at Dennys!

Head to Alatmonte Mall

Daytona Beach - park on beach (is there anyway to change for / after swim? )

Daytona Tortugas Baseball 7pm (All you can eat Belly Buster night! ).

I think there may be better beaches, but want to visit the iconic sights of Daytona... drive on beach etc.

There are a few showers (outside & cold) toilets and changing areas at various points along the beach. However they are not great and can be very grubby/yucky by the end of the day.

On our last few visits we have had a large 7 seater (only 4 of us) we fold the back seat down and get changed in there. The windows are blacked out so no one can see in... I hope

Other than that it's change in the the wash rooms, trying not to let anything drop on the floor.

we love days in Daytona, there are toilets and showers with changing areas by the splash park . you can park there as well if the tide is in and the beach closed. there are also some next to the pier as well but the spalsh ones are cleaner.
if you park on the beach be aware of the tide as we have seen people get stuck, as you pay in the kiosk there are signs telling you what time top tide is, ask the attendant if it will be a high tide and he will tell you if/when to leave. .
there is a traffic lane and you park between that and the ocean so be careful if you have young ones as although there is a 10 MPH limit there is always someone in a hurry.
we either pick a subway up on the way in, eat on the boardwalk by the pier or if you just want a hotdog the beach vendors have chairs and the hotdogs are delicious.some of the beach front hotels are accesible from the beach for nack , beers or cocktails
one last thing.. there is no shade apart from under the pier so stop at walmart and buy a cheap parasol if you don't intend to rent one.
and finally ... enjoy it

we go every year, love parking on the beach $5 charge, one tip i can give you is search tide times so that you can plan which day will be the best to go. You dont want to get there at say 12 noon and the tide is high and you cant park on the beach. I am always looking at Daytona Beach web cam.

Great thanks all - did Clearwater last year and that was an event getting changed in the car, 7 seater, and this year have smaller car!

Yes, will check tide times, good point.

Think we will take a cool box with drinks / snacks.

Why not go straight to Daytona Beach in the morning.

There is a Denny's on Atlantic Avenue if that's your choice but a better breakfast would be at Peach Valley Café on Granada Boulevard.

Daytona has a mall, Volusia Mall, although not as big as Altamonte it has all the usual suspects, Sears, Macys, Dillards, Victoria Secrets, etc. But why waste good daytime hours in a shopping mall when you can do that in the evenings when the sun goes. down.

The Jackie Robinson Park, where the Tortugas play, is as you probably know an historic venue. My recommendation, as the Dibber who has spent the most weeks in Daytona, is to stay the night at a beach hotel so that after the baseball you can eat at Charlie Horse restaurant on Ormond Beach( the north end of Daytona Beach), relax in the hotel and return to the less attractive ambience of Orlando the next day.

There's also a Denny's on Speedway Blvd which you will pass on the way to the beach, its a lot better than the one on Atlantic Avenue.

Volusia Mall is ok , we've been there many times but the Altamonte Mall is better I think, more shops there.

I've been to Daytona a lot but I've never used any of the changing facilities on the beach as we usually have a beach front hotel or on a daytrip just put shorts and t-shirts over swimwear.

Next to the Pier is Zeno's taffy shop, I've never seen so many different flavours of taffy and its reasonably priced.

Some decent Go Karts if you like them at the Daytona Lagoon.

Do you mean the one or ones? I think the one on N Atlantic is better than the one on S Atlantic.
