Beaches with clear water

I'd like some recommendations. We're going in September and want to consider a beach trip. We went to Sanibel and Captiva once and the water was so murky you couldn't see your feet that was in March and I don't know if we were unlucky with the weather, it was like summer weather apparently. Or did we expect too much?

Clearwater / St Pete's Beach / Anna Maria Island should all fit the bill

All of the Gulf Coast is subject to pollution at various times. It can vary from one week to another. The only guarantee of clear water is in the Florida Keys or along the Atlantic coast.

Clearwater Beach get's my vote! The shallow water is a bit hazy due to the waves stirring the sand.

No you did not expect to much but the currents and tides on the Gulf Coast do affect the clarity as do the storms.

Where we are the waters are often crystal clear one day with shoals of small fish swimming in the shallows a couple of days later it can be cloudy.

September can be a wet stormy month so keep an eye on the weather forecasts and try to plan your beach trip when there are no storms lurking off the coasts.
