That still doesn’t really explain why you would allow 300 people to reserve if you knew you couldn’t supply 300 cars. Even allowing for no shows it’s not going to be 50%.

Of course that’s if the numbers quoted are even true...

So glad that I amused you!

Lot of US manufacturers are running under the optimum 60days inventory’s, GM is down to 37 days on some vehicles. Semi-conductor issues are causing a pinch point worldwide.

The car hire companies have long term orders in place with manufacturers, so you may not have your electric seats or digital instruments or EV but your fleet flogger won’t be very much affected by that issue so much.

But sure you knew all that

It’s not just that though is it.

Car manufacturers are prioritizing retailers orders as they usually pay 30% more for a vehicle than car hire fleet contracts pay.

The travel industry is fully expecting the car hire issue to get worse before it gets better.

Spring break you couldn’t find a car in central Florida under $1500 a week for a “I need it now booking”

Good article on the BBC today about the chip issue. Part of the issue is Companies stockpiling plus they thought demand would drop so factories slowed down production.

Nice to see the drive to pull manufacturing out of the Far East as well. We should never put all our eggs etc etc.

Things will improve as the year progresses.

I don’t know if anyone on here has tried to buy a graphics card for a pc recently but the prices have increased by about double and it’s all down to the same issues. Covid and Bitcoin. The hire companies, looking to offset their short term losses sold off their stock which was sitting around losing money. Seemed a good shout at the time. Then because of Covid the chip manufacturers shut down. No silicone chips, no new cars. However just as the chip manufacturers opened back up the price of Bitcoin (and some other crypto currencies) went through the roof. Now the way to getting Bitcoin (apart from buying) is to set up computers to look for pieces of code theatre scattered throughout the internet. You don’t actually need computers for the legwork just lots of graphics cards. The higher the spec the better. Bitcoin is worth so much that the car manufacturers are being outbid for the chips which would normally control all the computer systems in a car so car production has slowed. Give me points and a manual choke again please.😂

Hi MrT, this thread brings back memories of taking 5 hours to change out a knacked motor with Dollar in 2013 at Ft Myers airport, the year after they were bought out by Hertz. Kiosk lass pointed to an area of cars, perhaps 60 of them that had been pulled out of service as they were knacked. 5 of us waited patiently, wasn't the lasses fault... the following year we bought our old Fl banger and haven't looked back since, saves us circa £2500 to £3000 each winter after buying insurance.
