ESTA panic

ESTA panic
Anyone know if easta s are taking longer?
Nephew applied Friday and it’s still pending now and he is due to fly tomorrow
It’s been over the 72 hours
Any ideas ?

I had told him to apply weeks ago 🤦🏻

Some have been taking up to 2 weeks! If it is being checked manually it takes longer

Oh wow
We’re moving his flight date
So after reading this might do it for longer than a week

I don't understand, for the cost, why anyone would apply for an ESTA with a Week or less to go?
It's $21. Not a big loss.
If you get denied, however...

Should apply as soon as you book.
Ideally before.

Yes you’re preaching to the converted
I always do this and advise everyone this but that won’t help nephew now if I say I told you so

Trying to find out if taking longer so I can advise him and help

Also it’s not a holiday
Flight only to see American girl friend
He already had a valid esta but going for longer so he thought he d best renew :/

so you can double told you so ! as ESTA is only required for entry so he really wasted his time

I do wonder if applying for a new ESTA when one is already valid might trigger a manual check

Oh dear; his ESTA only needed to be valid on the day he landed in the US (tomorrow); didn’t matter that it expired whilst he was there!
I hope it gets approved soon for him 🤞

As already mentioned, the ESTA only needs to be valid for when he arrives in the USA. It doesn't need to be valid for the whole stay.

Just to check - he can only stay in the USA for up to 90 days with an ESTA. Hopefully, he's not thinking of staying longer than 3 months?
