Mobile Bizarre and further off the beaten track

So 15 years of visits and a year living in Orlando I am always looking for things to do I've not done before.

So any obscure places you have been?

I've found Pioneer Village at shingle creek on Groupon which seems a bit out there so gonna try that.

Any other bizarre places you've been?

This is a bit different!

visitflorida/en-us/e...ke-county.html

Don't know if this is bizarre really but certainly not what you expect out in the sticks!

The Pioneer Village is a great look at the 1800s history of Osceola County and how people lived (without electricity!) in those days. The docents do a great job of steering you round and pointing out the history behind the artefacts.

Cassadaga is a WHOLE different experience if you're in to spiritualism, tarot cards, etc. A true original and with a genuine community spirit.

This is also somewhere we'd recommend in conjunction with a visit to the nearby town of DeLand.

just how weird and/or obscure are you wanting?

the "weird florida" book is a good starting point

amazon/Weird-Flori...nguag e=en_GB

although its not really a travel guide, its more of a compilation of weird stories and artifacts, but it has the likes of spook hill in there.

as for somewhere to visit, how about a trip to gibsonton? its where all the freakshow people used to live (you may remember it from an episode of the x-files!) - vice/en_us/article/9...sonton-florida
go visit the showmens museum - showmensmuseum/

hth

We have often used it in conjunction with lunch at the Old Sugar
Mill restaurant in DeLeon Springs.

Love the answers so far, gonna look into all of these.

What I love about the tourist area is that you can drive for a few miles and feel like you are in the middle of real area and no sign of tourism.

My brother's house is a few miles from a Disney entrance on the way to Windermere yet you wouldn't know it at all.

We visited friends who lived in an RV sub division (space for your RV on the drive) and it's less than hour but through orange groves and small back lanes.

It is amazing how soon the roads outside Orlando become rural.

These two old Orlando Main Streets are interesting

The Old Spanish Sugar Mill? Bingo! That's a great choice out that way - should be on the 'menu' for everyone who ventures north of Orlando.

Different places we have been include Pine Island, Arcadia, Appalachacola, Cedar Key. It depends how far you want to drive really. Some good suggestions on this thread
